I was waiting on a friend to get off work so I could borrow his cherry picker, so I removed the lower intake manifold.

I also removed the water pump and some front brackets.

Then I was still waiting so I removed the exhaust manifold.

So its been a few days, and I have been working on this motor a lot, I just haven't been posting. Here is where I think we left off.

Then I removed the exhaust manifold and labelled the water lines to the heater hoses.

Dirty dirty. I believe this is one of my many reference pics.

Here is one of the following days when I got it on the stand.

My belling housing-to-engine bolts were too short to reach through the spacers on my stand so I chopped the spacer in half. I figured I can always put it back on like a washer if I need it for a different motor.

Some more reference pics. I uploaded only a small fractions of them.

My careful labeling of even the obvious parts. I figure it cant hurt to be too thorough.

I'm sure this is also unnecessary but I marked head bolts with a center punch to ensure they go back to the same places they came from.

This is the head where the cam rides. Visually I don't think it looks great, but when I checked it with plastigauge it checked out.

It measured just withing specs on journal diameter, as did the camshaft.

Scarred main bearings, I'm sure this happened on the ride home after the plastic chain guides came apart and the oil became filled with metal. I ordered the kit tonight.

Dirty dirty.....the spacers on the stand were too long for my bolts. I had to cut them down.

A good example of my overlabeling even the simplest parts. It sure can't hurt to do the extra work now.

I even numbered the head bolts with a center punch to be sure they go back in the original order.

This is the head where the cam journals ride. I think it could look a little better, but I checked it with Plastigauge and it was within specs.

Crankshaft and cam were both borderline within specs on journal diameter, but the clearance was good and should be even better with new bearings so I'm not going to worry about it.

I don't have any pics of the block, but It's a little too out of round and too tapered, so I'm having it bored .020 over by the O'rielly's machine shop.

My main bearings are pretty rough. I'll post more soon of my semi-cleaned engine parts and my clean engine bay. I'm waiting for pistons to get here before dropping the block off, that way they can bore it to exact measurement. Thanks for looking!

Spent two hours with a bucket of Dawn dish soap water and rags washing the engine bay.

Then I painted the lower part of the firewall that only had overspray from the factory. I figured spray paint would be fine under the hood out of the weather. It actually matched fairly well.
