4runner utility lamp

there is little information to be found about the factory utility lamp that plugs in under the dash. im working on trying to use the fj40/60 utility lamp because they are still available through Toyota. can anyone provide any pictures of the 4runner plug and setup, as in where its mounted? I may have to try and source the plug from a cruiser as well.

Are you trying to be authentic? Or just get a cool utility lamp?

If the latter, just install an easily available 12v-5v converter with USB A sockets. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33045226842.html

Then you can use an easily available LED lamp that plugs into same https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33031142208.html , plus you have more sockets for other devices.

I have this unhealthy weird obsession with Toyota parts, even if they are slightly less functional. I was able to source an oem glove box socket and lamp for a similar year fj60, so I guess ill be doing my best to imitate the 4runner option with landcruiser parts. just collecting some pictures of how the wiring and socket sit in the 4runner now. ill have to make my own harness for the outlet which isn't a a big deal but id like to keep it clean and oem looking.

Utility lamp plug

On my 88 4runner the socket looks like one for an old 2 prong light in a house. I got a plug in at lowes that fits but have not sourced a 12 volt light to use with it yet

Hey! Me too!

Welcome to the club!

Here is a thread that I bookmarked on the subject. It shows the two-pronged outlet next to the fuel door release knob and further down has a picture of the factory light that came with these trucks:

Toyota calls this light the "Inspection Lamp" (81370 in the diagram below) : https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota_19...137089101.html

these parts are NLA. I’m more or less using landcruiser parts to mimic the 4Runner option because the TLC parts are still available and very similar
