Need help with random wire when changing altenator 84 Pickup
So I removed my altenator on my 84 pickup.. noticed this blue wire wasnt connected to anything, it may have gotten disconnected somewhere when I pulled the wires from the altenator itself but not sure where. Can anyone help?

Please keep us posted.
I don't see any blue wire documented on on 1984 and later, but I see one on 1983 schematic. It goes to the condenser. It's those little black blocks that screwed/mounted on body metal...

And on my 1986, there's also a black wire coming out of the alternator harness that is not documented but is grounded to the power steering pump mount bracket.

I looked at the Haynes wiring diagram and like RAD says - there's a black wire coming out of the alternator harness that is not documented. It is grounded to a bolt on the engine. The other end is the connector at the bottom of the attached pic.

I think it may be a ground wire like you've all mentioned, I undid some of the electrical tape and got down to the bottom of the wire(see pic) blue wire connected to the black wire with yellow connector, safe to assume it's a ground? Just bolt to anywhere then?
also, tested my altenator which is why I replaced it, the voltage regulators purpose is to keep the voltage from going to high right? I didnt replace the regulator assuming it was only the altenator.

So the blue wire is not stock. You sure that black wire is on the HARNESS SIDE of alternator harness? Checked voltage on it like I suggested above?

OK, most likely that black wire that L5Wolves shows above.
IF it might help... On 1986 to 1988 (maybe 1989, too), there is an intermediate connector before the alt connector. It is round and near the black block (shown below). The ground wire that goes to alt or power steering pump bracket is on that connector.
IF you're not having a problem. Just insulate the end so it does not short anywhere. BUT one last step so we know. Pls measure resistance to body ground.
