R150F Shifter Compatibility

The stick on my r150f broke in half today. It looks like the previous owner tried to cut it up and re weld it at different angles??? But it's done for. It broke near the base where I can't weld it back. There are no R150f sticks to be found anywhere (except for super expensive short throw kits. I've read that a w56 stick might work? I found some 2wd 22re sticks on ebay for cheap, anyone know if they will work? I also found 3rz sticks from a tacoma? Does anyone know for sure what sticks will and will not fit?

I have a a set of R150 shifters and one set of shifters from the G 52 transmission that came out of my 1984 Xtra Cab. I need them, but maybe we can learn something by comparing them. Later today I will put them side-by-side and look at them. If I see anything interesting I'll take some pictures and post them back here.

The R150 shifters are different then the W56 series.

If the3RZ has the R 150 trans it might work never having one in hand .

There has to be a way to fix yours.

I'm going to take it the rest of the way apart today after work. It broke below the small round boot right at the transmission. I'm afraid it is too close to the circular part that rides in the bushing. I'll take some pictures of it when I do take it apart.

I got mine taken apart. It's easy to see why it broke. The previous owner cut both the transmission stick and the transfer case stick and welded in about 3in of steel. It broke at the bottom weld. I welded it back together for now. That 22r shifter set looks almost identical to mine. I did end up finding a Toyota junkyard in California that had a manual V6 shifter. And another yard had a tacoma v6 transfer case shifter.

Did you try marlincrawler.com they almost certainly rebuild more of these transmissions that anybody else. In 2005 I had transfer case shipped to me. During shipping one of the shift rails broke off where it sticks out of the case. I called Marlin Crawler and they were able to sell me the part I needed for a reasonable price. I would call them first if I needed any driveline part.

I had no idea they sold used replacement parts like that. I've never talked to them, just used their website.

The yard that said they had a 3.0 manual shifter has canceled because they can't find it in their inventory. I called Marlin Crawler, they said they dont have any factory stock shifters. I found a Tacoma 4x4 W59 shifter that looks to be identical to both my shifter and the picture posted by Wrenchtech. I think I'm gonna give it a try. I looked at the marlin crawler shift seat that I ordered and it fits both the r150f and the w59 so that makes it a little more reassuring.

Here are the pictures from the ebay listing for the one I just bought. It looks like everything is the same. Same spin cap, same ball, same tip. Of course I can't judge size from the pictures but it looks like what I need.

Here are side by side pictures of the transfer case shifter on a 3.0 vs a 3.4. The 3.0 transfer case shifter is the one that has the extension welded in. The only difference I can see is that there is a vent on the 3.4 shifter housing. I re used my 3.0 shift housing so I wouldn't have to block off the vent. I got it installed along with a new Marlin transfer case seat and a new Toyota boot. It works now and the shifter is tight with no play at all.

Here it is assembled with the 3.4 lever and 3.0 housing. And in the truck.

If you need to ask if Marlin can help, sometimes it pays to ask. The worst they can say is No.

I can now confirm that a W59 from a 3rz Tacoma has the same stick as a r150f from a 3vze. Plus they both look identical to the shifter from the 22r. So it looks like the V6 shifter is compatible with all 1st gen 4x4 tacoma shifters (the 3.4v6 uses the same r150 transmission) or 3rd gen runners.
