DIN sized CB? Anything new?
I thought I'd try a new thread since all the dicussions seema t least a year old (tho I doubt there are a whole lot of new CB models).
Does anybody know of a CB that fits (without being really small like the cobra 510) the DIN slot below the stereoin say, a 97 tacoma (tho din should be din)
Not too concerned about price at this point...
so let me know whatcha know.

The best looking, best fitting, and most popular choice is a Cobra 18 WX ST II. I'm installing one in my '96.
Some pics i found:

i did that exact install... .only problem is that cb is kinda crappy. if youre just looking for a no bells and whistles, nothing to be modded cb that will talk, maybe just ok..... but will look great under your cd player, then the cobra 18 wxstII is your radio.
if you really get into the hobby you will quickly learn what radios are "crap" and which arent.

Speaking of TTORA, a poster there advised get a DIN adaptor plate but I haven't had a any luck finding them onliny (I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to make one...). Anyone ever seen one for sale?

i'm not very familiar at all with the uniden 68, but just on cursory spec search, it appears that the main difference is that the PC122 has upper and lower sidebands.
also - since it is quite similar to the PC244 (similar to the Cobra 148), parts are easy to come by and there are many documented mods, including tuning for swing, increasing modulation, etc... should you decide you want to mod it a little.
i would guess that the problem would actually be finding one of these units (PC122) since i heard that they've been discontinued for some time now. i got the last one for sale on the island at our local cb shop (well, our ONLY cb shop) about 10 years ago, and haven't seen one since. even the old timers at breaks are surprised to see someone still running one, and not one of the high power exports or full-size Cobra 148s, Superstars, or Galaxy radios.
it's a great little radio - most people can't believe i'm using a barefoot PC122 with an Astatic power mike until they see my setup. i would have gone to a full-size rig, but it doesn't fit in the DIN slot in my dash, and it probably wouldn't have sounded much better.
the PRO series small-chassis radios are supposed to be pretty good, but the local techs here don't like to open them up and mod them. supposedly, space is tight in there and it's hard to get in and replace components, tune things, etc... while this would seem to make sense based on their small size, i can't say anything with firsthand experience.
anyway... just my .02. hope this helps narrow down your choices somewhat.

If you want to get a cb that fits well in your dash, an old uniden pc model cb is the way to go. I have a uniden PC122xl in the dash if my T100 and it is the same size of my head unit

we had a uniden pro520 in my wife's T4R also - it fit, but it was a little tighter. i think the radio was a bit wider, so it took some trial and error and test-fitting to get it just right (at least we didn't need to fab up any filler panels or anything).

I did the same thing with that cobra unit in my 1996 taco. Make sure you get a 90 degree antenna adapter or you'll hit the heater ducting. That was the only issue I had with the install. Got about a 2.5-3 mile range out of it.
