Sub Amp suggestions...

Ok, so after spending the last 4 hours on various car stereo boards, I've yet to gain a solid answer about who makes what now, and what does well.

I USED to compete in NSPL/USAC/IASCA db Drag. Those were the days of Jay Lovelave and Team Creative Acoustics, Alma Gates and Team Gates, and my personal favorite (and old roomie) Erik Reid. We did 160's w/ walls of subs, tons of batteries, and LOTS of power. Now I understand that 2 15's and an amp are all you need for 160's. DAMN. I just dated myself... Those who are in the scene will know what/who I'm talking about.

I'm looking for an amp to power my aging Stroker 15, maybe a Stroker 18. I've got a few left over from my competition days, and I happen to like them. If I go crazy, I may swap in a Juggernaut or a DD sub... I'm used to OLD Earthquake stuff, Soundstream, US Amps, OLD Orion stuff... etc. Those who know, will know what I'm talking about, AND what I'm looking for... HELP!

Oh yes... I'm not looking to set a new SPL record, but I would like something w/ good damping, a high S/N ratio, and decent THD... I'd need at least a CLEAN 1200 RMS, but preferrably a good 1500 or so...

Your asking about more power than I am used to playing with. Back in my days as a Car Stereo installer and Store mgr. Zapco was the way to go. Now I understand that Phoenix Gold, Zapco, Memphis are some of the top of the lines...along with Rockford, etc.

2 15s and an amp are not gonna hit 160s on the new termpro mic. My first question is, what ohm are you looking to get 1200-1500 watts from? The new fosgate power series amps look impressive. You can get them in 1000w,2000, and i think a 3000w models but they are pricey. Im getting ready to ditch my kicker stuff. It puts out great SPL but sounds like ass. My new stuff will be something like a MTX 9500 or Diamond Audio TDX. MTX has good stuff even though some dont like it. The MTX 1501D amp is a great amp and produces 1500w @2ohms at 14.4v. Im looking to completely redo my system for both SQ and SPL so I've got some deciding to do for myself.

I beg to differ.... course, it's an Extreme rig, but who cares....

My old roomie Erik Reid hit 171db w/ 2 Treo 15's and 4 Memphis MOJO's... hah. That's sick.
