The Owner's manual doesn't have this info so I thought I would ask here...

I burned a copy of a music CD as well as a "real player" audio clip but neither plays in the car. Is there a special format I have to use (ie file types or the CD brand or format)? Or does the CD player not recognize anything other than orginal music CD formats?

I'm not real sure what your question is, but for example, if you burn a playlist in Windows Media Player it will work in ANY CD player. If you use a program like Nero then you need to select the option that says it will work in ANY player.

How did you go about burning? The files need to be .MP3, not .WMA, or .RMA or anything like that, that might have been your problem. If you need to burn any .WMA files, use Windows Media Player, thats what I use for all my audio burning except when I want to make a data cd for my Pioneer headunit then I use Nero but you won't be able to do that in your 4R.

Thanks. I think that helped. I think you are saying the CD Player can read MP3 files. I will try and burn into an MP3 Format. I hope my CD Burner is capable of that. I haven't used MP3 files in the past.

The standard CD player does NOT play mp3 discs. You have to burn it as an audio CD for the CD player to recognize it. MP3 discs are burned as data discs, it wont read them at all. It is a possibility that the player does not read that brand of disc, that has happened to me before. As far as real player audio, you would probably have to convert it to a wav file before you can burn it to an audio CD.

Well i have used a LOT of brands that work fine. Most recently i had verbatims and TDK's work just fine. I would say that most brands will be ok, but it is *possible* that is was the brand. It is more likely the way in which it was burned. What software do you use to burn?

Brand shouldn't matter, I used the cheapest brand that Wal-Mart had one time and it worked fine. V8sport is right, it must be burned as an AUDIO cd, all I was saying is that you can use Windows Media to burn .WMA AND .MP3 if need be.

The brand of disc used to be important but cd players are becoming better at reading discs. I've had a few players that were very picky about what you put in them. The file format that needs to be on the disc is ".wav" That is the format that Windows media player, Itunes, Musicmatch will all burn an audio CD. In my opinion, any software other than Windows media player or Real Player is easier to use. However I also like programs that offer losts of options and I have high level computer knowledge so my program of choice is Musicmatch version 7.2 which is a couple years old but they removed a few features I liked in newer versions. Upgrading is not always in your interest especially when it comes to music as the RIAA is trying to limit what you are allowed to do and all these players now have less features than what they did a couple of years ago.
