I bought these speakers a couple of weeks ago for my fiancee's Lancer and they are pretty good for the price.
The highs are so much cleaner and the bass isn't that bad. They are running off a Pioneer head unit right now, but I plan on adding an amp in the next week or so to run them and a sub.
If you are looking for a cheap upgrade to your factory speakers, go for them. They are well worth the money, plus Crutchfield has awesome customer service.

I found that the headunit power is not enough to really push them. I am looking for a separate amp to power them. The headunit peaks out too soon.

And the $60 autozone system, how good could it actually be? If you are trying to upgrade I bet it would be counterproductive. If you just want something to listen to I'm sure it would be more than adequate.

I'm glad you guys like the speakers. I ordered them and went to Circuit City for the install. Well, two things happened:
1. The guy said they were horrible speakers and that I would waste money on the install. He told me that he didn't mind installing them but getting better speakers would be more worthwhile. He also told me that he didn't care whether I bought speakers from Circuit City or Crutchfield. "Just don't put these in."
2. I also ordered the same set for the rears and told him that cutting was necessary. Well, install for the rears went from $30 to $90 with cutting. I ended up returning the speakers.

To give an update to earlier posts of mine in regards to deals on Blaupunkt systems...,
Went back to AutoZone to get more details for you people and found out that they no longer carry that line of Blaupunkt's equipment. Apparently they've determined that therte was a pretty good demand for the brand so now they've upgraded what they stock and since the equipment went up, so did the price.
They currently offer two choices of Blaupunkt's audio systems; the 220 watt BPV 755CD that comes with two(2) 6x9 speakers for about $200; and the 180 watt Indianapolis CD34 that comes with two(2) 6.5 speakers.
Both have detachable, digitally animated, lighted faces w/adjustable colors (I "think") and remotes.
So if you've an interest, there you go and sorry about any disappointment that anyone may have had if they went there for what I'd previously said was avaliable only to find out that it was not..., due to change in inventory.

ebelen1,
I ran a stereo store for several years...most of the time if they do not carry the speakers then yes they will talk down another brand. All of us have opinons. They are in the business to sell their own product, not install others. So take their opinion at your own risk...just like you do here.
I am sorry you had that experience. Replacing the speakers in the 3rd gens is pretty easy to me. Mine sound great. The rears do NOT require any cutting if you make the wooden template to mount them.

Just installed these speakers. WOw it came generously packed with lots of misc hardware. Installation was easy and everything was precrimped. A soldering iron was not really needed. Sound quality is OK but for $39 it was well worth it. My infinitys do put out greater quality and i would reccomend this kit to my friends. Now i just need a 4ch amp to power them.

MAN!!! These things are great!!!
I just left a little get together, and a buddy has a set in his Dodge Dakota. Its hooked up with an Earthquake amp, so the speakers are seeing about 150watts a door. The sound from them is unbelieveable. While they aren't DLS or Morel speakers, they are well worth the $40 you pay. I'm buying 2 pairs and I'll post up pictures of the installs later

I just bought a matching Rockford Fosgate P2002 to power my fronts and rear doors. Going to wire then in parallel and run them at 2 ohms at 50 watts RMS per channel. Roughly double the power they are getting now from the headunit. I don't really believe the headunit can power them at 22watts RMS. Those specs don't seem realistic on headunits.
Hopefully the new amp will bring out more of the sound that they are capable of. I also picked up a Sony EQ to mount below the receiver, got it cheap so we will see how it comes out. Pics to follow when it is done.

1 pair of speakers installed is 35.99. For a component set they are supposed to charge a bare minimum of 50.99, but 71.98 is the normal charge for 1 set of components. And when the sales associates only charge 35.99 for a component speaker install we (installers) go after the associate's BLOOD!!

They're here!!! One set is going to be installed in a 1994 Honda Accord LX that BADLY needs it. It'll be powered by the California Profile A600XL amplifier I scored for $30!
The other set is going into a 1993 Lexus LS400.

Hi guys,
totally new to stereo stuff, but I've installed a few myself. Wanted to put these component speakers in the sails, but my 97 did not come with component speakers in that location. Can I get some sail panels someplace to go in? Or should I just mount them in the door?

Ok, so now I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX to work on. The job? Install a set of Blaupunkt TSc660 components, and a Profile A600XL amp. Simple job, but man did the sound improve dramtically
The equipment. Didn't take pics of the supplies, but who cares
This is what I had to work with.. Anyone notice anything missing?
