AM Radio Problem 2003 4 Runner
I am experienceing a frustrating problem with stock AM/FM/CD stock unit and wantto see if anyone else had this problem or has suggestions. I am on 3rd radio as Toyota service thinks replacing unit will solve the problem and offers no other solution. I loose AM radio reception after wet weather or car wash. Radio reception over time really degrades until it is virtually useless. No sign of water or moisture damage on replaced units or anywhere within car. I suspect connector, antenna problem. Antenna is in rear side windows. Any thopughts on this issue?

This would my guess and the thing is with the 4Runner, they have the antenna inbedded inside the rear quarter panel glass (both sides) and if one fades, the other one takes its place.
Hmmm.

I was going to suggest having them swap the windows with antennas, but if the radio works after each radio swap they should be fine.
Maybe the antenna connection is eventually becoming grounded somewhere up front?

Its my understanding that it is important for the am band that the antenna be grounded for reception purposes. Also my understanding this makes no difference for FM reception.
I have no idea as to your set up but my antenna has a wire that has to be grounded to insure good reception on the AM band.
Maybe a ground wire for the AM has came loose?
Good Luck
