johnny joints vs. heims
anyone know why all pro uses johnny joints for the lower control arms and heims for the upper? I am going to be fabbing my own and was wondering about the difference. In most cases it looks like the johnny joints are cheaper and they are rebuildable. The heims cost a little more and are vulnerable to dirt and such, but them being threaded offers greater adjustability. Just wondering if anyone knew or had some thoughts on it.

I'm moving this to the fab shop because the only people who know about this are more likely to see it in the fab shop. Plus, it'll stay up longer in view rather than get buried in a couple hours.

Works for me. I was just looking at heims and for teflon lined 3/4" heims like allpro uses on the upper control arms its around $50 a piece from what I've been seeing. The johnny joints are 30 and my dad can pick them up from currie so there is no shipping.

i think you have pretty much answered your own question, rubicon express(RE)/currie/johnny joints are rebuildable, and cheaper. heims are adjustable, but in any climate where there is mud or sand, they wear out quicker and then they have some slop in them. the RE joints can be tightened to take up the slop and then rebuilt eventually. just make sure you get the joints that are threaded, not the ones with the snap-ring like allpro sells.
i would go with the RE joints, if you want the adjustability, you can weld them to a 3/4" bolt with the head cut off. just be careful when you weld them, too much heat and the body of the joint will warp. use TIG if you have it.
