Built a spare tire carrier for the Tacoma.

Since i put the tank for the OBA where the spare goes I needed to build one for the bed. Knowing the spare back there would pretty much make the bed useless i designed it to be easily removed and make it fold up for room for camping gear and stuff.

Down position

Up position

Thumbs up

Nice build! and its versital!! A+ for that!

One question though, does it have a pin of some kind to secure it to the bed floor when you hit bumps? might want that if not.

At least around were I live the county roads and off road are rough and stuff bounces around alot.

Also whats the cross bar made from that holds it in the up position? it looks like it might stress bend over time BUT I cant read the deminsions that are wrote on it either.

Still a cool build and quck! didnt have to wait a month to see it all done! cudos.

Im not knocking your build at all just curious it all

Glad you like it! I put D-rings in the back that I'll ratchet strap it down to. I was thinkin of using turnbuckles too but I'll see how the strap does. The cross support bar is 1x1/8 tubing. I think it should be ok for as little as it will be used. Dunno though! This is my first time building any thing like this. So if it fails I have an excuse! I think I'm gonna take the factory tie downs out of the equation and make a more solid mount out of angle. It's pretty stout now but it flexes a bit more than I'd like.

Ok. that should be ok. It'll mostly depend on how rough your wife drives lol. I wouldnt worry bout it in the down position. you could weld some pins with cotter pin keys in the top for it to go over and then pin down too. kinda like the old hotrod car hood pins. then you wont have to mes with the strap and it'd look even cleaner too.

Man I HAVE to get to playing with the welder again! I've got all kinds of ideas to play with and your just adding to them lol.

I like how yours is up front unlike a prerunner type which I like but I use my truck so it'd be in the way.

I think I will build one of these for the back of my 4runner. i really like the Idea of having it swing up in the back area.

That would be sweet on the back of a runner!

I added the Hi-Lift to the frame.

Those were taken over by Buena Vista. I can't remember the name of the place though. The trail head starts a bit south of where hwy 24 meets 285. It runs west towards Buena vista and makes a loop sorta. There are a few trails down there. Pretty fun place.

That area is 4-mile. The back side is where its fun, the front side is overused and not very fun. I actually put my full size bronco on its side up there.
If your looking for more of a challenging trail head south about 10 miles from Buena Vista and you will find carnage canyon and chinamens gulch.

Reading my hometowns name on a forum just put a big smile on my face! Shoot me a message is you ever need a wheelin buddy in the area!

Really nice build, adding the hi lift really makes it nice. What did you use for paint?
