auto to w56 tranny swap
so i have an 88 4x4 sr5 (w/ tach), ex cab, 22RE, with an automatic transmission. and i am planning on swapping that out for the w56 tranny,
i was wondering what EXACTLY is invloved with swapping transmissions.
such as a list of materials that i would need, obviously i know the obvious (t cast tranny clutch lines pedal...) but all of thoes little things that no one really thinks about.
i have not taken the auto out of my truck yet but i was thinking that i would have to do something with where the torqueconverter was i.e. a flywheel
i didnt really know.
and what do i do besides the obvious of taking the auto out and puting the w56 back in? is there an adaptor or does it just bolt right up?
by the way my automatic is already comming throught the floor it is NOT on the column so i was thinkin that i would not have to cut to much.
i have not bought anything for this yet but i am hoping to complete the swap within 10-15 days from now so any advise on the swap or where to locate parts would be amazing.
thanks
Justin

Swap
The auto will swap with the flywheel of that year. I am unsure but the t-case might swap too. Driveshaft lengths might change. The computer was made for an auto so you might need to find your VSS. I think for the manual tranny the VSS is grounded when your vehicle moves. The auto is different in that it has to know the speed at all times. Find both wiring schematics and check out any differences.
Good luck.
Good luck.
