'97 4Runner SAS in progress

Got the correct clutch in yesterday from Marlin and built the front x member, so I'm installing them tomorrow . I'll get the cross member welded and tacked up and front axle slung, It's just a matter of putting together pieces. I should be running by the end of next week ... drive shafts, tranny x member, measure for travel to get the correct shocks, grease it oil it and go!!!! I'll take pics as I go. keep checking my site, I try to keep that updated as I go:

BTW thanks to the clutch fix pineers for getting rid of that damned torsion spring bushing combo. Just did that mod yesterday!!!

I've done just about everything myself thusfar... a bit of help with the engineering of some pieces from a couple of club friends, but 95% of the work has been done by me. There have been several welders I have been using as I don't personally own one... yet... but the current one I've been using is a Lincoln Electric Weld Pac 100... plenty for up to quarter inch steel. The problem I've been running into, and part of the reason it's taken me so damned long is my garage wiring is 14ga on 15 amp breaker... it gives me about an 1 1/2" bead before cutting out. My front cross member took me about 1.5 hours and about 20 trips to the breaker box to trip the breaker back on . Next project.... GARAGE WIRING!!!!!!!! and some extra outlets. I'm hoping to get everything put back together this week and my shocks ordered, and drive shafts made and installed by next weekend... and Yes, I'll be ready by Takeover!!!!

Well, I am very excited... Why you say? Because I have the axles slung and ready to get the proper angle and finish welded!!!!!!!! Check out the update pics on the above web site. :rockband: :bounce2:

Man that is A nice runner. I love the height of yours. sas and35's but not to tall. Did you make that rear bumper yourself I have never seen one like that!

Very nice progress, and you're doing it mostly by yourself too, which is even better! Been welding for a long time? I'm just starting out, and there's no way I'd trust anything I weld at the moment.

Rear bumper and welding experience

Yes, I used the center piece of the stock hitch for the frame crossmember. It attached to slight extensions in the frame to box the very rear of the frame rails. I think I used 2x3 to box it. The hitch slid nicely between the extensions and I had an offroad Racer buddy of mine do the welds on that part. Then I added necessary 1 3/4 tubing to that for the rest of the bumper. I have all of the hardware to put on a swing out tire carrier. That'll be the project after I create my front bumper.

My welding experience is limited to my sliders, rear bumper, and my SAS, but I've had a bunch of friends that are profesional welders give me enough pointers and confidence to tackle it. And I thank them every time I press that welder trigger.
