3rd gen SAS Speedo/ABS
OK 3rd gen. Guru's,
When you performed the SAS on your rig, how did you go about getting the speedo to work?
I know about discarding the ABS system which is fine with me, it has lousy brakes anyhow, so good old everyday brakes should be fine.
The speedo operates off of the front ABS system, so how do you go about tacking it to the rear axle ABS system just to have a speedo? I plan on keeping the stock rear axle so the ABS sensors, and port's will be there.
Stretch the front ABS lead's to the rear axle?
I also know about Dakota Digital's "Magic Box" to hook things up and get it somewhat close.

Seems like there are different mods for different vehicles. Being that you have a v6 and a 5spd, you MAY (don't know for sure) have your speedo coming from your transfer case tailhouseing. If not, you may have had it coming from your ABS sensors. I think you are onto the right path with patching into your rear ABS sensors. Then you can patch in the Dakota Digital to correct the Speed sensor.
I'm sure there are others on here who may have done it differently, and hopefully will chime in.
On my '99 Limited with an Auto tranny, I would have patched into the rear ABS sensors. However, I no longer have those, so I use the GPS for now, until I have more time to invest in this issue.
edit: My transfer case is multi-matic transfer case. I don't know if your rig has a mutli-matic, but if so: I used a switch on the side of the transfer case lever that will allow me to shift power to the front wheels up to 62mph. However, now I no longer have a front IFS houseing and switch letting the trasnfer case know that the front IFS half shafts are engage (allowing the full-time 4wd). So, I have closed this loop, using the button on the side of the trasnfer case lever. This cuts power fron the transfer case to the front driveshaft, allowing you to run in 2wd, contrary to what some would say. When I want to send power to the front driveshaft, I can open the switch and shift the transer lever into 4Hi or 4Lo, and I have power to the front driveshaft. So, again, I think it depends on what your setup is. As I stated before, I think you are on the right path with patching into your rear ABS sensors.

you can easily run a signal splitter off the rear sensors and tie it into the inputs of the front sensors. No need to run the wiring from the back sensors, just tap into them at the ABS computer. Or you can run a superlift speedo corrector and tap the signal from the rear sensor directly to the lead going into the speedo, bypassing the ABS computer all together.

Well this post ruined my day... Was planning on eliminating ABS when I do the full floater rear setup prior to doing a SAS. Looks like it will be one or the other now.
