Josh's '86 RadRunner
Purchased in November 20006 with 317,xxx on the Chasis and an alleged 20,000 on the rebuilt 2.4 22RE non-turbo. I bought to replace my 1998 Tacoma which was in an accident.
Thats a whole other story. So This truck was bought to be my daily driver until I could afford to buy a car. When I bought it the woman who sold it to me let me know about a couple of problems that she knew it had. She new the Clutch MC was leaky (empty in about 3 days if not filled) ( I had to find that out on my own), that the rear window would not go down, and that the rear driver's side Brake Slave leaked and needed to be replced. Nothing requireing immediate attention from a broke person's prospective. I drove it for a couple weeks paying no attention to the fluid coming from the rear drivers wheel, since I knew it was Brake fluid. If you ever have that situation, don't wait. Spend the $25 for the new Brake Slave and save yourself $120 for wheen barings and $120 in machine shop time when the brake fluid corodes the wheel barings. That cost is based on replacing both sides to keep things even. Up and running again! A few months later, a couple months ago, I encounter another problem. A hose that I couldn't find a connection place for from the start ( I assumed it was not important) was now calling my attention. Fromt he beginning it had had a bad idle. This problem with the hose began when my buddy John and I tried to increase the idle. On my way home from that weekend's trip the throttle got stuck on. No matter how much I punched the pedel it wouldn't quit. I was able to get to the GV local parts store and James helped me by capping off what I now new was a vacumm hose. This only helped a little though and after much searching I discovered that all I needed was a stupid fileter for the stupid hose. I guess it had gotten clogged. That brings us to more recent history. History in the making you could say. Monday Febuary 26th it dies. It had been pouring rain earlier but at this point it was dry. I was close enough to push her home and when I got there I checked the fuses. The EFI fuse was blown so I replaced it and tried to start it up. It started with ease, as usual, but died immediately. I checked the fuses again and the EFI fuse had blown again. I checked all the wires I could to find the short, cutting out and replaceing a few sections, but not finding anything in anyplace that might casue this problem. Each day I keep checking wires, replacing ground wires, checked inside the distrubutor cap for moisture. At first it blew a fuse every time a put a new one in and tried to start it. Than, I took some bad advice and put in a 30 amp fuse rather than a 15 amp so that I could look for smoke to easier find the short. That did not cause any problems that I know of but I was not able to find the short. Since doing this I have the same problem of starting and dieing only now the fuse doesn't blow. Since then i've used 15 amp fuses. When I turn the key to ACC or try to start it I get the brake and oil lights, I thought maybe I have a short at or in my alternnator since I read a post that said with an alternator problem you always get those lights.
Now, despite all this madness I have been doing some work to her a little at a time. I stripped out the interior. Carpet, paneling, rear seats, front seats, everything. I used Dupli-Color to line the floor and behind the panneling. (Dupli-Color is like Herculiner but cheaper, Available at Wal-Mart $42.00 Gallon).
I have:
Two 4x8 sheets of 14 gauge steel diamond plate that i'm going to make new panels out of.
40 feet of 2inch .156 and 20 feet of 1 inch .156 DOM steel tubing for a interior cage.
Two Tenzo R Rally style racing seats for the front.
Two R.J.S. 5 point harness'.
Future Plans:
I am still learning about this stuff. My buddy John knows a lot more, plus I have you guys and this site to learn from.
I do know that I want to do an axle swap. I really want to sawp for full size Toyota 8"ers. I have some 15x10 steelys but i need tires for them, probobly get 33x12.50x15s. It has a 3" body lift which I want to replace with a 1" body lift after I do like a 6" inch suspension lift. I want flared fenders...big flares...some body work and custom paint, and all the other important details that I don't even know about yet!

I'm back everyone. I missed you guys. I'm finally all moved in and settled down in Fair Kansas City, Missouri. Of course I'm getting ready to move again next month, but this move is a local one. Actually, I know this probably doesn't belong here but...I'm looking for a warehouse right now, and as soon as I get it, hopefully within the week, I'll begin construction on a Theater. Not just a Theater though...A full on All Media Community Art Center. yeah.
Now back on Topic...My Truck made it halfway accross the country. Barely. But it made it all the same. I still have all the same plans and this new busniess should make it happen even faster.
