CJM's 87

Just nabbed me this beatuy for 800 bucks. Got some rust, some othe rminor stuff but its everything I wanted for the price.. Not to bad for an 87 SR5, 5 speed local to me. I stole it for the price!

So onto the plans:

Suspension:
Chevy leaf spring swap with original yota leaf as overload. Probably gnna use budbuilt hangers, trailgear or sky rear hangers and ruff stuff shackles b/c of the offset. Looking to gain 3" or so

Front will be BJ spacers and 1/2" torsion crank. Maybe get OME torsions for a heavier bumper later

Gonna use bilstein 3" lift shocks for the rear and bilstein suzuki sammy stock shocks for the front. Should work out well, $$ but billys are the best.. Course i hear doestch tech is really nice too and maybe will give them a look.

Bumpers:
Rear marlin, front ARB/TJM

Misc:
-Gonna try and see if I can get sonoran steels IFS brace, but since Steve doesnt make too many I dunno I may fab up something myself.
-Gonna convert the headlights hella's
-Doing 4 IPF lights up front most likely, and 2 utility tractor lights in rear for back ups
-Weld on diff armor F/R
-Chnage to manual hubs
-4Crawler 1 or 2" body light (havent decided)
-Mudhippys idler arm fix with bronze bushings and downey or total chaos brace
-Gonna mod the rear window switch soit will do it anytime with no key
-Fuel and battery cut off
-Procomp rockcrawler black steelies
-33x12.5 firestone MT's
-4Crawler 4x4 short throw shifter
-V6 brakes
-Engbldr 261 or 268 cam
-Engbldr steel back guide/hardened pulleys/chain, timing chain guides
-Regear to 4.88
-Budbuilt skids
-4Crawler drivetrain lift
-Custom rear tire carrier with gas can mount
-Homemade ABS snorkel with safari head
-Ford tauras fan
-V6 rad
-Longer brake lines
-Possible dual t-case later on
-Gut interior and herculine
-Do body work and herculine rockers and paint body OD green and top black textured paint
-CB w/ firestick II
-POR 15 or similar rust converter on undercarriage
-22RE intake/battery swap
-Oddessy battery
-Aux fuse box for access

I think thats about it, hoping to be done and perfect in under a year. Hoping to be lifted before june at least.

I will take pictures tommorow.

So I got it today. Cold start injector def needs to be replaced or cleaned, it wont stay running unless you rev the piss outta it.

Removed the entire interior, rust cause it seems the carpets were soaked? 2 body mounts on drivers side need work but nothing big.

Rear window works somewhat, defogger lights up so I think it works, rear wiper works but dont contact rear window? Cruise dont work, washer dont work?

Interior is shot, gutted it all save for the seats which are ok, shifts ok but shifter bushing is needing replacement-really loose shifter.

Some moron wired the radio pos they had in directly. it didnt work right so i just cut it all outa.. someone put stereo speakers in there too!

Otherwise with some TLC should be ok for good trail truck and beater. I cant complain for 800 beans..

Bad news, after gutting the interior and such I found way more rust than is worth fixing. at least 3 body mounts on the body, the frame doesnt look so good in a few spots, some idiot used great foam, packing foam and bubble wrap to insulate the rear cabin where they put a set of woofers, the floor pan on the drivers side is rusted through, etc, etc.

I knew it was bad, but this is ludacris. Well 800 bucks for a parts truck I suppose aint that bad, I at least have 2 good rear seats, a tailegate and working window, hood is ok, front grill is ok, engine seems fine, new battery, trans/clutch, and sr5 cluster.. Now to find one in beter shape and go from there..

Well... you almost had a good deal... you should be able to unload the parts for what you spent + a little if you're lucky... better luck next time...

Yea, damn shame. I mean the back clip is pretty rust free but the cab is totally shot, the outside is shot besids the tailgate and such.

Hey, live and learn. I figure ill have it towed to my shop (or if I can get it going long enough ill drive it), further strip it of anything usefull and then send it to the yard for scrap $. I should get what I paid out of it..

To those who want parts:

There is not much useable stuff on this truck, I am keeping whatever for now and gonna part it out in a few months. Till then its gonna sit..
