Ch-Check it Out!!
New to the forum,
I am a student, going for firefighting, love the outdoors whitewater kayaking and snowboarding are my sport passions also play hockey and baseball when I can.
So here it is:
My old Chevy Pickup was out of commission. Within a day or two I was ‘youtubing’ up a storm and ran across the “Top Gear: Killing a Toyota Videos”:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrk6vsb77xk
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Uc4Ksz3nHM
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfZDtC9kjVk
After seeing that I knew my next vehicle would be a Toyota. I spent tons of time researching on yotatech, Wikipedia, pirate4x4, etc. Actually the community at Yotatech was one of the things that set me over the edge for buying one, since i figured if I couldn’t figure it out someone here could.
I found this ’87 4runner on kijiji.ca and bought it up. The frame seemed to be in great shape, and the body was in excellent for a 20 year old truck from Canada. Its a 1987 4runner 4x4 with a 22RE with 280 000 kms on it or about 175 000 miles. Pretty much stock except for the lift and 33" tires with little tread left. The front dash has been changed to grey and some grey sr5 seats, man those seats are comfy all the adjustment points on 'em.
I will definitely need some help/advice from you guys as I turn this into my ultimate daily driver/camping/expedition vehicle and plan on doing some offroading with it.
My plans for this vehicle include:
- Some sort of Sleeping Platform or System (I whitewater kayak, snowboard and camp a lot)
- Some sweet looking functional tires (those BFG A/T’s seem to be popular)
- A versatile/interchangeable roof rack system (to carry whitewater kayaks, a canoe, snowboards or other gear, obviously not all at the same time)
-Some Bumpers
Issues with the vehicle that may or may not need to be dealt with:
- Insurance Issue (I think this one will need a new thread)
- The ty lift that was done looks like 3” blocks in the back, I don’t know the front was raised the PO thought that just the torsion bars had been cranked
- Needs a new stereo system (PO took it out when he sold the truck)
- Passenger Power Window doesn’t work
- Rear Passenger Bench Seat stuck it the upright position (pull tab for the release is missing on both sides)
- Needs a rear window (broke the cheap plexiglass one day after I bought the truck)
- The bed of the 4runner is a patchwork of welded mess
Looking forward to becoming part of the YotaTech Community hope we can help each other out.
