22Rob's 1987 4Runner

Finally, after about 2 years of searching, I picked up this 4Runner about 10 minutes from the house, for 800 smackers. It is the base model, equipped with 22RE and autotragic transmission. The vehicle is bone-stock and my plans are to restore it to factory specs, except for the auto tranny...that THING has got to go! Unfortunately, it appears that rust has jumped on this truck and had a good time, so assuming that the rust is so severe, i.e. frame, that restoration becomes unreasonable, I will just drive 'er till she drops (seeing as I was in desperate need of a vehicle anyway). I hope it doesn't come to that....

Anyway, here she is...

And a side shot...

This is probably the worst (that being the most obvious) case of rust on the whole vehicle...nothing fiberglass fenders wont fix... That will be a while down the road I'm afraid.

Not much really, worked on cleaning the interior and peeled the decals off the rear window...ha ha. I will put up pics of the interior soon. Oh yeah...cleaned my rims...not a thorough cleaning, but they look better.

Well, the gremlins have been at work, and I got home yesterday afternoon to discover that my brakes lights were not illuminating when the brake was pressed. I fought with it for about an hour that night and could not get anything. Today, one of my friends who owns a 1988 Toyota Truck, came over and after a few hours we (well mostly him...I held the flashlight and occasionaly wiped his brow ) got them working again. I looked at a set of 31's today for $75...I may take them since I kinda' need tires but I'm on sure yet. I have compiled a list of things I know I need to take care of...

Too bad I don't have the money to do half these things...

Must Get Done

1) timing chain
2) brakes
3) tires
4) feul sending unit
5) license plate lights

I'm sure more will be added as time goes on...

Well, I bought the bulbs for my license plate lights and of course changing them made NO difference at all. I couldn't find a blown fuse or anything, so I'm assuming that its the Gremlins back at work. If anyone has any ideas let me know via PM...I've pretty much hit a dead end road. Thanks guys, and I'll keep this updated.

Here are some interior pics as promised. They aren't that recent...I've since vacuumed everything out and cleaned the dash and trim pieces. However, they'll do for now.

Yeah...my front seats are fantastic......but the back seats are flawless!

More interior pics coming...I'm just having problems posting images. I jumped the gun it would seem...my problem involving the lisence plate lights was due to the cable being unplugged. VERY simple fix thankfully. However, now my horn doesn't work...and here I was thinking I was finally ready for inspection next month...sheesh... I'll be sure to keep this updated.

Blew the fuse for the horn, so its all good! Another simple fix. *knock on wood* I'm ready for inspection once again.

Well, I pulled my smelly, dirty carpet out of the back! It made a pretty huge difference! (I will have pics up) I'm seriously thinking about putting a spray in/roll on bed liner in the back instead of putting carpet back down. Hhhhmmm...that'll be a while down the road I'm afraid.
