I'm going to try to make it to Moab as well, pending on work load.

dlbrunner 03-25-2008 10:47 AM

Are there any cabarets in Moab? It has been a few years since I have been there.

No.... but get a few beers in Schaefer and you never know what might happen.

Be sure to bring your extra dollar bills. :hillbill:

Doubtful...never seen any in that state...

Utah is BYOB (beer and b _ _ _ _ )

last year I had more weight in booze than spare parts

dlbrunner 03-25-2008 12:44 PM

I keep forgetting, the state of 3.2% beer..........

If you are going to haul a bunch of beer/booze, might as well throw in a few local "entertainers" for a "One weekend show!" Rent the local moose lodge, fab up a 2" DOM shiny pole.... Send out some flyers....Charge admission.....

Heck if the deal was brokered right, the trip could be paid for.

now who is willing to sit in a car for 8 hours with a dancer?

OK don't answer that.

You guys did bring an impressive amount of beer last year. I'll pack some in this year.

i_love_tacos 03-26-2008 03:37 PM

im gonna plan on making it to Moab this year. cant wait.

sschaefer3 03-27-2008 03:44 PM

I just talked to Ben at the Silver Sage and the place is almost all full. I got a room, so plan ahead or you might have to stay somewhere else.

May 28 to June 1, Moab Utah.

AZ4ME 03-28-2008 09:25 AM

Got my reservation. They have plenty of rooms on Wed and Thurs nights, but only down to three rooms left for Fri and Sat. Two of those rooms are smoking.

Does Hughes have his reservations yet? The Sage seems like it is getting more popular every year.

Moab Camping

What’s the camping situation like in Moab? Plenty of State, BLM and NP land on the map, what’s accessible and somewhat close to town? BLM offers group reservations only, anyone else interested? The site says they opened 4new camping areas.

Others may chime in about camping... but another option is to look for "cabins" in the Moab area. We stayed at one before and while the "cabin" itself was not much more than a shed with a couple beds and a TV, the rate was around $25 or less per night. They generally allow pets (if that's an issue) and located in campgrounds throughout town. Bathroom and showers are shared.

Try to make sure the "cabin" is in good shape. Perhaps ask for pics. The first time we got one, it was very rough. But was only $20 and made for a very good story to tell. Could have even slept 2 couples. :great:

Cabin or tool shed?:

The 2nd cabin we found was much nicer. Even had a TV and was waterproof. :eeek::

Thanks for the advice. I searched and found the Lazy Lizard amongst others, having good descriptions and pricing. Looks like the cabin set-up would be the winner.

If we could get a “bum group” staying at this kind of place it may make the accommodations all the better. Although, a hostel may not be the place to reek of gas guzzling adventure and park trucks.

Sorry to hear that Jim. Is he just getting bogged down with other work?

Thats some of it, but remember it's all custom work. Its hard to put a deadline on something like this. I will be picking it up this weekend in AZ.

I had the weekends confused...I e-mailed Ben again tonight.

Edit: I am in...last non-smoking room.

With Elvota out of commision for the time being and the fact that partying and general debauchery prevented us from running DeSoto this past w/e, I propose we change the May 3rd run to DeSoto. Also, it will be getting warm in the desert and it would be nice to have a little elevation under us. Opinions?

BTW I don't have that w/e cleared at work yet and I have a lot of requests already for May. So there is a chance that after my BIG idea here, I could end up not attending. Duh!?! So we could certainly look at April dates too.

Also, should we look at other April alternatives for Reynolds-led runs? Steve, any chance of your getting some w/e trail time in?

sschaefer3 04-02-2008 01:11 PM

May 3 to DeSoto works for me.

toy_tek 04-02-2008 01:17 PM

Desoto / May 3 would be a good alternative. I'm only about 50% though, as I will have friends in town that I would like to bring along but don't know our schedule yet.

sschaefer3 04-02-2008 02:46 PM

Well, you guys need to figure out for sure if you want to do the run, if you do, no problem, but if you can't make it, I have a rock buggy to put a motor in and a 4Runner to get ready for Moab.

I will make time if runs are needed, but if everyone is going to flake out at the last minute, I would rather get my junk fixed once and for all.

Understood. I can give a more solid answer tomorrow or the next day. Also, more folks can chime in overall in the next day or two.

SOAZtim 04-02-2008 03:52 PM

I won't flake if I commit as long as I have my truck. :)

I don't ever want to let it out of my sight again after this last month..! :bigok:
