Thanks to my friend Jeff, I can now accomodate you.
Thanks Jeff!

I actually failed on this line due to steepness and loose surface. Hence, my need to move along on a lower T case gear.

Ssstrrrrretch...

Just for fun, me next to a couple stockish 4Runners.

Why do you have a track bar on the rear axle? With leaf springs, isn't that kinda moot?

Most of the guys here have experienced pretty significant axle wrap with similar setups. I didn't try it without the trackbar so I can't personally attest to how it would be without, but Schaefer has built or fixed enough of these to know what it needs. I figured it was just as well to set it up right in the first place.

Nope, not a moot point. With real flexy/soft leafs in the back, you tend to get axle wrap under load (climbing, hard acceleration, towing, etc.). The wheels will actually hop from the leafs wraping and the axle rotating. If you use lift blocks in the rear with leaf springs, it can amplify the issue also. A lot of times if you by a lift kit that uses rear blocks of a good size, they will include a traction bar.

I had the issue with the torque from the crawler box and steep climbs. You could see a definate improvement after the traction bar was installed.

Google 'axle wrap' and you can find more info than you could ever read.

Update

Finally got around to taking care of this...

Went to see Steve for a trim and ended up with this.

So hopefully I'll get to squish the springs again soon and check it out. If only it wasn't a million degrees out...

I'll take you up on that. Probably be a couple weeks. The DD needs some attention first so I don't want to dig in just yet.

Yay! The 4.7 is in without drama. Even though I had a helper (thanks Jeff), we both got so engrossed that no pics were taken. So all I've got is after pics i.e. clean t case and dirty tranny.
Next up is to check it all out on the trail next w/e.
