that is who i will be purchasing my next 22re from, heard nothing but good stuff about em.. i was going to do my own with some engnbldr stuff.. but recently my friend did a new head, tchain, front cover, oil pump and watter pump from him.. and well the oil pump was junk (literaly the his used one tighter tolerances) and a guy who we know that owns a shop has nothing good to say about his headgaskets so ill be looking at oregon engine builders for sure. though i might go visit Cylinder Head Specialties (also known as Motorcrate Engines) and see if a guy who i use to deal with on my chev and ford motors still works there.

It seems people have had good experiences with these guys.... can you just drop one of these motors in, or do you have to swap out parts etc from the old engine?

Well, I have a 22RE built by Ted (Engnbldr) adn installed by his brother at B&M Engineering... I had a T-chain pin let go on me a mere 500 miles into my ordeal, but Ted got me a new one adn said he'd treplace the parts for free if anything was messed up... Now I've got over 5500K on the same motor (had it back in a day, that's good service IMO) and it's been absolutely FLAWLESS. I cannot say enough good things about Engnbldr.

Cheers

Dave

Just ordered from them

Just ordered 22RE with steel guide from Oregon Engine Rebuilders, will let the forum know how it goes... so far talking to them on the phone and emailing they have been responsive and pretty straightforward, hope the engine's a good 'un!

I just bought a 4 runner that has a brand new motor from OER and it seemed like a great deal.

Ack, that sucks.

All I can offer (haven't installed my engine yet, hoping to do it this week) is that you should call them and talk to them... they seemed like a decent enough group of people when I talked to them to order my engine.

Let us know what they say?

Purchased a 22RE Super Stock from OER a few months ago. It's in the truck and runnign great. We are approaching the 500 mile mark. No issues so far. Power and low end torque are great.

I would recommend them to anyone.

I called them and they notified me that they do not install that gear, it is the responsibility of the installed. Well the person I purchased the vehicle from must must have forgot that and when I bought it the engine was layed in the truck but I installed everything. Told me 100 times how honest he was but after I got the engine in I had to take it back out because he put the flex plate on wrong and then got it running but with no oil pressure. Haha o well.

Update

Just to update this thread, my new 22RE is in and running very well (only a few hundred miles right now but it's a start!).

OER was easy to deal with and I would say they sell a good product. It came with a very complete gasket set, I would say other than basics (filters etc.) we didn't have to buy anything more to do this replacement (other than hoses, clutch etc. and other things that needed to be fixed).

For whatever reason, these don't ship with the oil pump gear, you need it off your old block... it's kind of weird but there's a huge warning tag on the engine when it arrives saying that's the case (even though the chain cover is loosely bolted on already for shipping). Sounds like in the above case someone missed that, and since the sign was gone how would you know?

The only complaint I've seen elsewhere online had to do with not getting oil pressure, but that sounds like someone who just ignored the huge bright colored sign

Overall so far I would definitely recommend them.

Let us know how it goes

Good luck with your engine, let us know how it goes... just be sure to really read the (thin) documentation that comes with the engine... little details like the oil pump etc are pretty key

Happy

So far so good... have 600 miles on my 22RE, changed the oil and checked the vales at 500 per their instructions, no full throttle / long distances at one throttle setting for the first 500 (tedious) but now I can rev it all the way and sounds good to me.

Just be prepared to make the whole system easy on the motor during break in... in other words, make sure your cat isn't clogged / other sources of backpressure in the exhaust system, etc etc.

Update on mine:
less than 10k miles, has not been abused what so ever
I have a very loud knock coming from the rear lower part of the engine.....

could be a flywheel/clutch issue but not likely

leaving bearings.....

guess I'll be testing the warranty

Definitely somewhere in the engine..........not happy! A motor with less than 10k miles on it should not fail.

We'll see how they handle it

As of now they want me to pay round trip shipping for them to fix their own mistake which would cost me $220.
