TRD Locker into non TRD?

TRD Locker into non TRD?
I have a 1996 tacoma 4x4 with 3.58 gears, man. trans., and a 2.7 liter. I have access to a 1998 V6 TRD Tacoma, but the only part of the truck that interests me is the whole rear axle (e-locker equipped) that I would like to swap into my truck. I have done some homework already on the subject and found some helpful links : http://www.norcalttora.com/~dick/Wri...ck_control.pdf . This link does a fairly good job of explaining the electrical aspect of it but.....
1. I was wondering how expensive it might be to swap the front gears out of my truck to match the new 4.10 ratio of the locking trd diff?
2. Would the front end gears work out of the V6 trd donar truck?
3. Would all of this be worth it and how much would you guys be wiling to pay for the rear axle?
Hope I don't overwhelm you all, just want some answers, Thanks in advance!

you'd have to swap the axles, the thirds are not interchangable (8" TRD vs. 8.4" non-TRD). i'm pretty sure the front thirds are interchangeable though. and there are a few people on this board that have gone through this exact process of buying a locked truck and swapping third members and then selling the donor rig. the only thing im not sure of is if this is as easy for a tacoma as it is for a 4runner due to different rear axles.

You'll need to swap entire rear axle as mentioned. If you can get the front end out of the TRD take it as well as it will swap directly into your truck. V6 or 4cyl no longer matters in a tacoma as it did in older trucks. Be sure both trucks have manual hubs or you will need the matching cv shafts as well from the front or just take the knuckles from one and do a hub conversion

i need help on this too, but for a 4runner. I'm having a '99 E-Locker (complete axle) going into my '98 4runner (3.4, auto). The shop thats doing it isn't a 4x4 shop so I may have to "supervise" a bit.
What I've learned so far from this forum is this:
1. Make sure the gear ratio is the same f/r
--- I take it that the E-Lockers are only 4.30 but the rear on mine may not be 4.30. Is this true, considering I have the 3.4 auto??? Hopefully someone can tell me that all the 3.4 autos all have the 4.30... please..
2. Make sure I get the "computer" for the E-Locker
Questions:
If my gear ratio is say 4.56, Could I just put the rears gears back in the E-Locker's pumpkin, or some variation of that?
Does anyone know of a thread that has actually done this... i can't seem to find any and have searched and looked all day.
Any recomendations or advise would be appreciated...

e-lockers come in 4.10, 4.30, and 4.56 gearing from the factory(you can buy a whole 3rd member from toyota for around $800).
you need either a TRD housing for one, or a standard 8" housing and modify it, the taco/t100/tundra housing will not work.

right on peeps, thanks for the help. I'm getting a full rear Elocker axle from a crashed 99 Lmt... I think I just need to go ahead and get the front axle while I have the chance... actually I've been thinking of try to buy the '99 for parts... maybe I can get the whole thing for around $1,500....
Kyle, I'd take a ride in your 22re anytime bro
