Shims for regearing

well after dealing with 2 guys who decided to have my diffs for over 4 months each and let them sit, I am almost finished with the setup..what i came to find is that my v6 rear shims are missing.i have a feeling it was before i got my hands back on my install and gearsets that the shims are lost...so my question is, has anyone ran 4cyl pinion shims on a v6 pinion???? Ive got some left over from the 4cyl that are the right thickness but there is play when placed on the v6 pinion. seems like the 4cyl pinion shaft is thicker than the v6 one.
