locker question

this dang search being screwed up is kicking my butt. i dont use it that much, but when i need it, it doesnt work...ARGH. anyways, for those of you running lockers of the non selectable variety, which are the best for the money with the best on road handling characteristics? also, word on the street is that they are easy to install.

I have been running a Detroit Soft locker for almost a year now, and I love it. On the road it is predictable and offroad it makes a HUGE difference. It is one of the more expensive automatic lockers, but because it replaces the carrier it is super strong.

Cheap easy install? Go Aussie or Lockright.

Built to outlast your truck and mods? Go Detroit.

the first and second gen 4runners have the same diffs, either 4cyl or V6/turbo

for the money, a full detroit isnt really worth it IMO. before i spent the cash for one of those, i would get a used toy e-locker

I second...SIMPLE and STRONG. May be loud, but if you want a a good cost/effectiveness ratio...you cant beat it except maybe with an Aussie, but until I see a few years of testing with them...Detroit is on top.

It a write up on the installation and quick review of the Detroit EZ Locker.

Been running Detriot soft lockers for two years. Extremely happy with its off road performance. It's on road performance is much better than a lock-rite. In hind sight, it was a good choice.

Not true. 4cyl diffs aren't the same as turbo/V6 diffs.

That's what I thought but they told me they didn't have one available for 90-95 Runners yet.

It may be that don't yet have one for a 7½" diff yet (some 1st gens don't have them). The 8" diff I know is available.

same topic, would these be kinds that you can run on a daily driver? and if you were to run them on a dd, do you dare run an automatic locker in the front?

I would run a limited slip diff. on the front if you have independent front suspension. Lockers on the front IFS force steering to drive straight.

ARB is always a good choice in the front IFS or straight axel.

well, i've thought about arb's front and rear, but theres the money issue, so i dont know. i just plan on having new gears in my truck by next winter and would like some lockers to go with them, im just debating whether lockers on the ifs would be beneficial enough to spring for front lockers, but i guess in the mud, they would help.

I wouldn't run a locker in front if you have ADD. If you have manual hubs go for it.
