Just ordered this winch setup

I know, another 4x4Lamm winch thread

Well, I broke down and went for the following:

-Warn M8000, $525 with free shipping
-Aluminum hawse fairlead, $35 with free shipping
-Rockstomper 5/16" x 80' Synthetic line with 10' abrasion sheeth, $122 shipped
-Military style battery terminal x2, $18 shipped

I also bought 2, 3/4" shackle mounting brackets and backing plates for them for $90 plus shipping. These will mount on my TJM with 4 grade 8 1/2" bolts each. I already have tow shackles for them.

The winch comes with 100' of wire rope and a roller fairlead that will be up for sale shortly if you are interested. I will be using the stock Warn winch hook as of now till I find one I like.

Pretty good deal eh? Only "expensive" stuff left is a snorkel, ehxaust, Wet Okole seat covers and LOCKERS!

So, if I need help with the install who can give me some pointers? This will be my first winch.

Good to see you got a proven Warn instead of that Ramsey.

Where'd you get the military style battery terminals?

oh and.....

Yeah, I think it will give me a lifetime of service.

I got the batt terminals at pullpal.com.

The install is not till like the 22nd and will take a few days, but the pics will make it to Yotatech in time.

just remember you can "clock" the lever if needed (just unbolt the end with the lever, clock it, and retorque the bolts. You should not need to trim your bumper if you do this--should be included with the instruction sheet on the winch and on the bumper--but wanted to be sure since I have seen people cut up the bumper (ARB, TJM) unnecessarily.
Also you should look into the Warn winch accessory kit or one like it. I couldn't see winching without a snatch block, tree strap, a couple of shackles and a chain at a minimum-- and the Warn stuff is nice.
Is your bumper designed for the roller fairlead? My ARB has a reinforcement tab over the top of the roller that the side rollers bolt to.
If it is I have seen a roller specifically made for the synthetic ropes that I will switch to when I get a new rope.
Look forward to the install pics!

Good advice Mogger. Can you clock all of the Warn winches in this fashion, or just the non-integrated solenoid models?

I just finshed wiring up my Warn M8000 in preparation for the East Coast 4Runner Jam at Paragon next week. The worst part of my install was connecting the ground wires to the winch (I had left them off when I originally mounted the winch to the bumper). The worst part of your install will be removing your TJM bumper and re-installing it with the winch inside. I installed my ARB bumper by myself using a chain hoist attached to the ceiling of the garage. It will be much easier if you have a friend along to help!

Good Luck,

Bill

I will have 2 friends to help, maybe 3!

TJMs are designed to use either hawse or roller fairleads, they don't discriminate. The front of the bumper is totally flat unlike an ARB. The guy I bought the bumper from had an M8000 in it so I know it will fit OK and everything.

I saw those thermoplastic roller fairleads but they are like $75!, my aluminum hawse was only $35.

I have also herd about the clocking trick, but thanks for the reminder.

I have 3 bow shackled and 2 D shackles and 3 tree straps and a 6' drag chain already. I will be getting a WARN snatch block from the local farm store soon, as well as an ARB winch extension strap.

Anyone see any reason to get an ARB winch cable dampener with synthetic line?

The shackle brackets are from expedition exchange, but you need an ARB or TJM type bumper to mount them or you will just destroy stuff and hurt people.

I have never really seen the need to dampen the synthetic line but I guess it doesnt hurt either. A buddy of mine has broken his twice under huge loads and he said the line just snapped and fell to the ground but under other conditions who knows.
I have the same EE shackle mount brackets, just havent gotten around to installing them yet. The backing plates will help but I still would not trust these bolted to an ARB or TJM bumper for a full on pull--the bumper material is just too thin. I plan to mount mine on either side of the roller fairlead to be used to more easily hook up pulls with the snatch block. I always use the snatch block with every pull by the way but I am running a HS9500 and generally am by myself or with people who are not familiar with recovery techniques and I just want to slow everything down as much as possible since I am doing everything myself and jumping in and out of the cab checking everything constantly.
I shoehorned a HS9500, which is an inch longer than the M8000, into my ARB bumper by clearancing the bumper a little and grinding on the edge of the cooling fins on the winch just a little. 4 Wheel Parts sold me the HS9500 for the same price as the M8000 so I wasnt about to pass on that deal.

Yeah, I wouldn't use them for a running snatch but for a slow pull,a snatch block or a place to stow winc hook on, they are great.

What a day!

My BCC rear bumper, M8000 winch, aluminum fairlead and EE shackle brackets all arrived today! Still waiting on the rockstomper synthetic line...

That winch is HEAVY! It looks great too. The instructions are pretty easy and my TJM is pre-drilled for the winch, cables and solanoid box!

The install starts the 22nd!
