#1: The left cargo light keeps burning out. The lights on the back of the cab, theres a left cargo, middle brake, right cargo. For some reason the left cargo keeps burning out. Its done it since my dad got the truck. You replace it and sometimes a week sometimes a few months later it is burned out. Any ideas on what causes this? The bulb is not touched with oily fingers.
I googled this and it seemed like a few people had this issue but their issue was that it was getting hot enough that it even melted the reflector inside. This one IS NOT getting that hot but it is burning out.

#2: The truck has a K&N CAI. Yea lets get past the K&N and ˟˟˟˟ty filtration. I am curious if there is a filter I can buy that will still mount up exactly like the K&N, use the same everything just a different, more filtering, filter. Or maybe something I can put over it to help it out? Not so worried this time of year, but this summer Ill need something. I can destroy a paper filter in a weekend so I dont want to know what the K&N is going to do. I can get measurements of the CAI pipe if needed.

I can't say much about the bulb, but you can go to k&n's website and do one of two things. Search for your truck and find your kit, then you could order a filter wrap, which I have on my truck. Keeps quite a bit of the smaller stuff out. I wash mine out once every couple weeks.

Here's the part number for the wrap for yours, assuming you have a 4.7 and don't have the polished intake kit.

The other thing you can do is take down your filter dimensions, then search the other filter companies on summit or jets. You can buy most of their filters as universals and mix and match your K&n stuff with afe or airaid or whatever you want. Here's the filter for that intake kit.

That filter has a inside diameter on the flange of 3.125 inches, and is 7 inches tall.

Thanks! I saw those little covers and noticed they only talked about blocking water, but I was curious how they would do against dirt/dust.

Would one of those other filters give me better filtration, something more along the lines of a paper filter?

 

Bump: Still looking for help with the cargo lights. I didnt think that the bulbs were getting hot but they are infact getting hot enough to melt the reflector! It seems to be a common issue but I sort of want to swap out the incandescent lights and upgrade to some low heat LEDs or anything else that is low heat. I use my cargo lights a fair bit, specially when steelheading and getting tackle setup or put away before or after dark.

Can I buy LEDs that will just pop right into the factory set up? I have seen whole LED conversion kits but I dont hav $80, let alone the knowledge on how to wire them.

You can get some LEDs from superbrightleds.com should be like 5 bucks a bulb if that. Just have to know the bulb number.

 

I'm not sure LEDs would be the answer to a repeat burn out. Are the bulbs cracking or shattering? Or just burning out?

 

The one bulb that was burned out had melted the plastic enough to where a small drip had falled onto the class, Im guessing that just caused the bulb to cook itself? the bulb was white you could not see into it and it was supposed to be clear so it cooked pretty good.

I am fairly sure its the heat and willing to try 10-15 bucks to see if that fixes it
