Question '01 Sequoia engine coolant drain location?

Hi all,

2001 Sequoia, V8, 4WD auto, SR5.

I drained the coolant from the radiator today, but couldn't drain it from the engine as I can't find the drain plug(s). The Chilton manual has a puny little diagram that's really unclear. I looked and felt in the locations the diagram seemed to be suggesting for the drains, but found nothing but bolts that hold stuff onto the engine.

I have searched Google and YouTube several times for text, photos or video, with no success. All I want is a photo that shows where the engine's coolant drain is.

Can someone help?

Thanks!

Sorry can't help you on the specific location.....

I never mess with the engine coolant drain as it's a pain to get to on my rig. I just pop of the lower radiator hose and the thermostat and drain the coolant that way before starting the flush.

Thanks. Yes, I drained the radiator and removed the thermostat, which allowed quite a lot more coolant to drain. Then I flushed until clear, with the thermostat housing in place but the thermostat removed. Then I put in a new thermostat and closed eveything up. Then I drained the radiator again, then ran the engine for a bit to dump some of that water into the radiator, which I drained. Did that a few times until no more came into the radiator.

Then it was time to fill with fresh 50-50... but it only took 1.5 gallons, where the total capacity is nearly 4... Does that mean there's still 2.5 gallons of flush-water still in there?

If I now drain the radiator and open the thermostat housing, would that drain enough so I wouldn't need to worry about what's left before refilling?

Thanks!

After the final flush with distilled water, I drain the radiator and pull the upper radiator hose from the radiator and 1) fill the block with undiluted coolant through the upper hose, 2) when block is full, attach hose to radiator and finish filling radiator with remaining coolant.

On my Tacoma in my area, the dealer uses gallon of Toyota Red coolant when flushing. It's about 60% water/40% coolant and I've never had any issues at temps of -5F.
