4runner owner lookin at an FJ

http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/7332453

Im thinking I could get it for 3000. Ill need to check it out and know more details but overall it seems like a bargain. Could probably drive it for a while then sell it for a bit more. It has no diamond plating or anything so it must be original body. I dont know much about these so I dont know what to look for. Any comments??

4runner owner lookin at an FJ

Im lookin at a 77' FJ40 for 3500 but im pretty sure I could get it for 3000. Im not sure if its a good deal but it seems like a bargain to me. No diamond plating or anything. Ill need to know a few more details and take a looksy but it looks pretty sweet! Would make a good winter vehicle while I park my runner out of the salt. And maybe could make a few bucks on it. Sorry to post here but theres no action in the old land cruiser section. Any advice or opinions out there? Good deal? Bad Deal?

It looks nice. Price doesn't sound bad.
I looks like the rockers below the doors have been cut for more clearance
front flares not stock

Let me refer you to the FJ40 buyers guide on IH8MUD

http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...d-cruiser.html

Tons of what to look for.

A 77 has front disks, drum rears

Hard top has rear barn style doors

4 speed on the floor.

I heard some rumblings about this truck, rumor is that it sold for a bit more than this last time it changed hands, (I think I MIGHT have heard it had a color change to). Bondo usually takes about 2 years to really show up. I would be looking at the channel across the back of the tub and the box section running across below the back of the seat mounts. The box section is very hard to repair with out the tub off. Check out the wiring, could be a bit of basket case with the new alt and tail lights (assuming he went aftermarket).

Don't expect rust free but hey, $3000 is a nice price, 77 is a very good year but then I'm bias... 8274 is a good start and with all tops is good too. 2F's rock! I don't know about your suggestion of parking the 4 runner and driving this for salty season though... Not exactly great heater and defroster, fun in the snow though!

Flyinglow you seem to know cruisers pretty well. My goal with this purchase would be to drive it over winter then possibly sell it hopefully for the same price. But given it has what it has (good engine system/brakes/frame/winch/tires) I think I could probably get more if I find a yota nut. I may decide I want to keep it who knows I do love fj's. But Im not looking for convenient winter driving, Im just lookin to save my poor 4runner hah. Assuming those things you mentioned check out would you recommend I go for it or nay? Im almost positive the body will have bondo and rust and such but thats pretty expected for the price. It just seems to me like Ive seen alot of bagged FJ40's with less to offer than that for like 4 grand and up.

My biggest concern is that it has been on the market for a couple months... I would really spend the time to have a good look and check it over especially with your hopes of driving it for the winter and flipping it. You don't want to buy it and then find it needs a motor or major body repair and sink $3000 or more into it to sell it for $4000 next year...

Call and ask some questions about how long its been for sale, and why it hasn't sold. If it all checks good then go for it. I also think the guy is moving at some point and needs to get rid of it but I can't remember where I heard that... I talked to a friend yesterday and he said it had been painted recently. You could also post in the vancouver island cruisers section of IH8MUD (TLCA/Clubhouse Corner, scroll to bottom of page in international clubs) and see if anyone knows anything about it.
