Thanks man. No tires yet. Long story. Kind of frustrating, but understandable. I will get them eventually.
A few things in the last few weeks-
Passenger-side wheel bearing went out. Almost fell off on the way home from work during rush hour. Had to have a tow-truck bring me the last 2 miles home. Thank god for AAA! I took my knuckle in to a local drive-line specialist shop and had them press in a new TOYOTA bearing and seals. $56 for 30 mins of labor, $26 for a seal I forgot to pick-up (luckily they had one in stock ), $103 for an OEM bearing, $56 for OEM inner seal and $155 for a remanned CV from O'Reilley's. In hindsight, I should have gone to NAPA for the CV as they are only like $75, but they werent open still when I was putting it back together :\.
I went camping this last weekend; camping back in the woods about 5 miles on a small, skinny trail. My truck took it fine. But, the power steering started leaking like crazy on the way home after doing a few 10-point turn-arounds. So, I went to TOYOTA to get a hose. They only sell the entire PS hose assembly, not individual hoses. They referred me to a local shop that does hydraulic work and what not. They said they usually thread the hard-lines and put threaded fittings on the hoses. Well, my hard-lines were cracked, so I opted to get the entire assembly. $443.
I mostly finished my rear bumper. There are still a few things I want to do to it, but for now, its good. Shes running okay. Seems to run better after taking the intake piping apart a few times while messing with the power steering.
I bought some plate steel and various pieces from work for skid plates and to start the front bumper. We'll see how much energy I have this weekend

the front bumper is going to have a winch mount correct? I think that is what i saw from your mock up.

Heres the rear bumper. This was out camping. I took the passenger side slider off to put gussets on but didnt get it back on the truck before we went.

I think I had my finger over the microphone on accident so there is no sound. It sounded bad- grinding and popping.

holy crap! that is pretty bad.
at least it didn't actually fall off!! that could've caused some problems...haha
ha i changed my buddy's wheel bearing in his f-150 last week. It was as bad as that and he had been driving on it for like 3 weeks.
cause he thought the wheel was only leaning in because a ball joint got knocked out of alignment...
also i like how the bumper is very low profile. i've been thinking about doing something like that to my truck.
at least it didn't actually fall off!! that could've caused some problems...haha

Hah. That wheel bearing was a pretty scary ordeal. 3 or 4 days before I had it towed, I started losing brake pressure under 10mph when I was almost stopped and it was grinding REALLY bad when slowing down and when turning past 1/4 turn.
I need to cap off the ends on the bumper and I want to get some tube bent to wrap up and around the taillights. And I still need to paint it. The low-profile, high clearance is what I was after, hence why I trimmed the bed. Its made from 2x3 and 2x2 3/16" wall tube. Total, I have paid under $200 for the rear bumper, sliders, material for skids and the beginning of the front bumper. Employee discounts rock

We have an old line-tracer style shape burner and a few track torches at work for our Oxy-Acetylene set-up. We hopefully will be upgrading to at least a CAD format for the shape burner soon, if not getting a plasma cutter, also. I havent gotten the chance to use the shaper for any of my projects yet, though.

aw man that kinda blows... it would be cool play with those for one of my projects!! haha
we only have a dinky welder, two angle grinders, and an acetylene torch that is out of oxygen... haha we just bought a pipe bender we are modifying now and we are getting a chop saw and a few other tools. it will be SO much nicer to build stuff with all of the tools.

Aye, well I dont work at a fab shop, just steel/aluminum supply shop. Like we have a large, automated horizontal band-saw, a small sheer for like flat bar, angle, round and small square and re-bar, and the oxy-acety set-ups for cutting plate and shapes. We're doing some renovations over the next few years so hopefully we'll get that plasma cutter, a large sheer for plate and another over-head crane
I just flat-blacked my grill and front bumper, but my computer is having trouble reading my USB ports and memory car slots.... so no pictures yet

Heres some better ones Thats my buddy's '97 Taco. When he moves down to the states in a year or 2, I already called dibs on it. Its in greaaaat condition with 180K miles. His dad owned it before him, and his dad bought it with like 20K miles on it in the late '90s. We used to ride in the back (with a camper shell on it) and play our game-boys on our way to fish when we were like 9-10-11 yrs old.

Got the tires on today. 285/75/R16 GoodYear Wrangler Mt/Rs. about 75% tread and one spare with nearly 100%. Apparently these have actually seen the dirt in Moab
The truck sits around an inch higher. So far, they seem to be nice tires. They rub somewhere, and I have definitely lost a little power.

$54 Moog driver's side outer tie-rod and 20 minutes of my time cured 3 problems- shaky steering wheel, wandering while driving 45mph+ and HARD pull to the driver's side while braking. Also greased the drive-line and it was about 1/2 qt low on oil. I need to change it anyways, but I'm taking it on its maiden off-road voyage this weekend, so going to wait until Sunday to change it

toyota4x4907 nice job! that's a pretty good transformation since when you first got it! I'm still debating on how to lift mine! how do you like the 2" spacers? did you ever ZUK it? I really how high it sits like you have it! Got any more plans with it? I'd get rid of the tail gate and maybe put one of those Bully nets? haha hope to see more wheelin pics! and that Yakima rack you have on it makes it looks so much better in my opinion! You got me wanting one on my Tundra too!

The spacers are fine. It rides pretty harsh, but I dont think that is from the spacers.
I bought OEM upper and lower ball-joints last week, and got them wednesday. $360 total. Hopefully going in this weekend.
Soon, I want to put on a snorkel (more for looks than anything ), Front bumper. I got it all measured out, I just need to cut and weld. I need to finish the skids. I have things to do before I put I try to ZUKs. As far as the tailgate, I want to do a tire-carrier off the bumper or in the bed frame itself.
The Yakima bars are just off my 4runner
I'm planning on re-doing the rear window and eventually getting a new (used) driver's side rear door. Not many Tundras in the junkyards here. I might have to go to Anchorage to find one. I have also been contemplating painting it either desert tan or OD Green. I'm leaning towards the tan.
Also, two weekends ago I put in new NGK spark plugs and changed the oil and filter- Mobile1 full Synthetic and OEM filter.

wow! nice!!! definitely post up pictures of the bumper when it's done, your cardboard model of it looked really nice! I've looked all over the place for armored bumpers for 1st gen Tundras, but seems like no one bothered making one for it.
For a rolled truck your rig looks fine! It's given me plenty of things to consider for my Tundra!
As for finding a Tundra in a junkyard, i've looked in my area too but no luck finding any! Surprisingly I've had more luck finding totaled ones on Craigslist.
Color wise I agree on painting it Tan, a lot of the 4wheelers here in Arizona have tan rigs and boy do they look nice!

Skids plates for under the engine and transmission. My truck is missing the factory under-engine cover. The oil pan and transmission pan are just sitting there, waiting to get punctured when I off-road. I have some 3/16" plate I bought to make some skid plates, but its more difficult than you think
My Tundra has the rear limited slip in the differential. Its pretty nice.
The thing with Tan exterior though is my interior is the all tan :\. It would look kind of weird. I like the green thats on it now, but the as you can see, the paint is beat-up and rusting. I want to cover that rust up.
