FJ just got tougher
Before
After
And the new winch with synthetic Voodoo Blue line
Looks like she's grinnin'
And yes I blacked out the bezel. I got to looking at it and it looked like someone has been shooting bb's at it so I cleaned it up preped it and painted it.
I don't have the fog lights wired up yet because, well by now y'all should know I don't care much for the cheap-o wiring that comes in the kits. So I'll be building a harness for them this evening. Won't take much since everything but the power lead is already there from my switch box mod.
Oh and I'm off to get the factory skid plate powdercoated. Too big to fit in my oven

Looks very nice Wayne.
The synthetic line looks right at home in there too.
I think I might do my bezel in the same white as the roof.
Yours looks great.
What kind of paint did you use?
I was thinking of dropping mine off at a collision shop by my dealer it they do not want to much to do it.
Kind of hard for me to paint stuff at my place.

The bumper can't weigh more then 100 lbs unless I really don't know my own strength 'cause I can lift it with one hand. I know the winch weighs about 100 pounds because that is what the shipping weight was and it is heaver then the bumper. I did it myself so it can be done.
If I don't get "lost" on some trail and forget to come to work Monday

Another question I had was what did you use to paint your grill with. I've been thinking of doing the mirrors and door handles black. Any advice for a rookie?

Krylon Fusion Semi-gloss black. The stuff is formulated for plastic.
I went over the entire surface with white (fine) scotch bright. Filled a couple of good dings with fender glaze and smoothed it out again with the scotch bright pad. Wiped it down with denatured alcohol, make sure you don't touch it with bare skin after wiping it down. Shot it with Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter (primer but specifically for plastic) let it dry. And then the Krylon Fusion and left it to dry in the garage overnight with the space heater keeping the temp no lower then 65.
We'll see how long it holds up.

Hey thanks alot for the info. You have done some amazing stuff to your rig. I've seen some of the wiring you have done and it is very clean. Looks very professional. Great job.
Thanks again

Update - the bumper is now sitting in the correct position.
Before;
After;
The solonoid is now under the winch on the far left inside the bumper. I can't mount it under the hood because all the space is used up.
I did relocate the remote socket;

Hey Wayne I've heard that some of the Road Armor bumpers mounting points can be off by a long ways and I was wondering if you had any troubles with that. It does look great on your rig though.

They weren't off at all - I (and Mike) were literally looking at it backwards from underneath. It looked like the slots were in the brackets and they were up as far as they would go but in reality the slots are in the bumper and it was down as far as it would go. After relocating the solenoid I was looking down at it from the top and had the Duh moment.
No the mounting points are right on and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks, I gotta do something about the "toothless" look in the front there. I got the powder coated factory skid plate back and installed yesterday. I'll try to get a pic of it.
I think it may need some trimming but I'll post first and see what you all think.

Car Top Tent
The weekend is over
Campin & wheelin with my Maggiolina Airland camper.
Crawled to the top of the trail and while everyone else was trying to find their tent polls I grabbed the hand crank and...
And of course it rained yesterday but all I had to do was crank down my tent and not have to deal with the wet tent, sleeping bag and everything else on the ground.
I am very please with my camper

It is the medium, you can fit two 6' adults easy. It mounts on the Yakama towers with the standard cross bars. After getting it up there I could have easily gone with the large but I'm good with the medium.
And as far as handling, I didn't even know it was there, on the freeway or climbing the trail. Mounting it on the Yakama towers and rails is about as solid as it gets and it clears my floods
