Mojave_Moze's 2000 4runner SR5 Build-up Thread
Howdy folks! Reporting in from Kentucky!
This may be pre-mature but all of you would probably agree when buying a new Yota, the excitement can't be contained!
After searching all over town all day, I finally decided on this clean and straight used 2000 SR5 4runner! Got mild plans for it, but am open to opinions and ideas! I get title in-hand next weekend!
4x4, automatic, 3.4 V6, power everything. Premium sound, No elocker, but that can be easily remedied!

You planning on wheeling this one man or just DD you know once you start you won't be able to stop lol. Mine was supposed to be mild and tho it isn't hard core by any means I've done a lot more to it than I planed. I will be following along either way look forward to what ever you do. Oh and congrats.

Thanks! I have mild plans to start with. just a lift and bigger tires, new rims to start with. Most likely a new front bumper too, something a little more aggressive. This rig will in fact be predominately a DD but I'm gonna build it to handle moderate offroading and adverse weather, like snow, which is common here in KY I hear! I have a long weekend coming up so hopefuly:
1. I can manage to take the vehicle safety course to allow me to use the on-post hobby shop
2. acquire said lift, rims and tires fairly soon!
other future plans so far include: Sound system, rear locker, removing running boards to put meaner side steps in place, and a complete tune-up!

UPDATE!
So got nearly all short term goals accomplished!
Went with an Old Man Emu 3" lift:
-Heavy duty front lift struts
-Medium duty rear coil springs and OME Nitro shocks
-Diff. Drop Kit
With this lift kit, things to consider:
-DEFINITELY requires an alignment after installation
-Wheel spacers are a GREAT idea if your going to go with 285/75R16s like I did.
-Only minimal cutting and trimming is necessary
-Make sure the Auto Skillz center won't close before your half way done with the rear coil springs and have to stop and throw everything back together within a few minutes. Then have to phone everyone you can think of to see who has the right tools to finish the job and end up having to go to the newly acquired female friend's house and meet her parents in the process of completing the rear lift coil installation.
Made for an interesting sunday evening, lol
PICS!
BEFORE:
Front struts installed:
A lot of the bolts were pretty good and seized, which made removal of the front sway bar a requirement when I snapped the bolt with nothing but a 3/8 ratchet o.O
Complete lift installed:
Aaaaand, tires installed!:

More pics will get posted once it gets aligned and I can find some dirt to play/pose in, lol
On another note. Other completed projects are:
New Pioneer head unit, this is actually the second one, as the first one didn't work....win for best buy!
The complete sound system is a Pioneer deck, and 12" Kicker sub powered by a 500w Alpine Amp!
and since i don't have a garage on post....Trunk fool of parts!
Now that I'm able to use the local Auto Skillz center, much more work can be done to this thing! Though, I gotta also work on finding trails, which another fellow Yota wheeler is offering to help with, hes got a 01 Taco.
Next plans for the near future is:
Front Bumper
New Wheels

About time you posted the lift work and stuff...now change your location!
Looks good, much better detail than the pics you texted me. Know anyone out there that wants a rust free '83 crawler? I'll drive it out in Dec when I go to VA for Christmas...

Hello everyone. I know it has been a long, long time. and I had big plans for this truck indeed. And it is true i did not realize how much I liked this truck....until it was gone
It is with a heavy heart, but this beautiful, reliable rig....is no longer with us.
I came down on orders for Germany, and being the auto buff that i am, decided to go for something much, much faster. a V10 powered, 500hp, all wheel drive Audi S6.
but, this is a yota forum, wanna hear more about the audi, pm me lol. Anyway, a close friend decided he would by the 4runner from me for a fair price. I took it to the shop, had all major issues fixed (or so I thought) as well as serviced and alignment done. Thought all would be well, since this buddy was ALSO going to germany....I was wrong....
As it turns out, german auto inspectors, are INCREDIBLY strict, and somehow found over 2800 EURO (more than dollars) worth of issues O_o
Of course my buddy couldn't afford that, but didn't blame me, because he was with me when we picked up from the US mechanic when they said "s'all good!"
So, the truck I spent a lot of hours on, some fun trips and adventures, and spent my entire enlistment bonus on -_- , and planned on buying back from said buddy one day. Was traded for $75 meager bucks, and either scrapped or sold off at auction in middle-of-nowhere germany......so Lesson to anyone who is or might be stationed overseas one day. DO NOT take your offroad rig there. The laws are literally this: "pay for your car to be legally registered, or it gets siezed ^_^" Theres no storage, no non-op, no other way apparently. pay for repairs and register it, or kiss it goodbye. I saw and entire lot full of other peoples classic cars, projects, and rare cares like Skylines, MR2's, Stingray Corvettes, and cars that clearly had lots of money put into them, just sitting and rotting away because they weren't allowed to keep them in a garage or parking lot on base.
It was an unfair and tragic end to would was a beautiful machine. But, i'd like to hope it went to a European offroad enthusiast, or maybe even an american living in germany, who will continue to always care her and keep it maintained....or more likely, its now being used to run drugs and weapons across the Ukrainian border....
