ooooh nice! Well i found my head gasket was gone this weak so i guess it's back to the garage the mighty yota goes. Hope the head isn't cracked or damaged. I'm lucky i have a couple other vehicles to drive since the truck was my daily driver. If you don't have a full size spare for the runner in the size of 265-75-r16 i have two bfgoodrich at's. You can have one if you want. I'm trying to sell them on craigslist for 40.00 bucks but if you need one it's yours. They only have about 10 to 20% tread left but would make good spares. If you're interested hit me up via pm.

That's incredibly nice of you but I do have a newer spare to replace the 11 year old original spare. Good luck on selling them!
Have fun on that head gasket! I'll cross my fingers on it being a simple gasket.

Needed a little better configuration for storage for our upcoming CO trip so built a crude platform for the back of the '96.
Had an aluminum frame from a rack I built for my old Bronco Also so I tore it apart and reconfigured for the back of the 4Runner. Did have to buy some new wood for the deck but other than that it's frankenstein'd together.
We'll just call it functional.

There are 4 removable boards on the deck so it is possible to get at the bottom stuff without opening the hatch. I used aluminum to keep it lightweight and because I had it on hand. It's also easy to cut with a hacksaw and drill holes into. The rack is tall enough for the tool boxes to go underneath. I tried to keep the framework to a minimum while keeping it strong enough to endure the junk that goes on top. The storage cubby is still accessible and I keep oil, brake fluid, tie-downs, shop rags and things of that nature in there. A gun rack holds the fishing poles.
I may add more support if needed, a rougher surface up top so stuff doesn't slide around, and holes at the fronts of the boards for pulls.
Better to find a use in the 4Runner than sitting in the shed as it has been all these years....

Hahahaha, big fish....more like bluegill.
Just a couple of cheap poles and a kid and I'm good. That tan tackle box was given to me around 1979 and I fished a lot. I've still got the Zebco around here somewhere, too.
The rack isn't too pretty, but it'll do.
Alright, back to work peeling the paint off the house.

Nothing wrong with bluegill (sunfish) they are quite tasty you just have to watch out for the tiny "hair" bones. One of my best memories from when I was a kid was a time I was fishing with my grandpa... I had my line out over the port side of the rowboat and he had his off the starboard... I caught 13 good size sunfish in under an hour and he only got 3...
We ate sunnies for days...
speaking of eating... try this recipe...+
clean and fillet the sunnies dip them in an egg wash and then coat them with crushed corn flakes. Take your skillet and melt lots of butter and toss them in, flip about half way through. They come out tasty tasty... serve with a small salad and lemon wedge.

The best fish I ever ate was prolly the channel cats we caught out of the Current that my cousins bbq'd sometime back in the 70's. Second was the swordfish we bought in Cape Cod in '76, caught that day. That's the last time I ate fish I liked. These days I just catch them and put them back or look at them swimming around in our fish tanks.
Fish. Blech!

hah hah if i had some crappie in the freezer i would run to your house to fry it up. I have made many disbelievers of the 'i hate fish and will not have my mind changed ' into what the heck did you do to this to make it soooo good!!! My fiance' is one of them! When and if i do another fish fry this year the invitation will be extended to you my friend to just try and see if you're not surprised.

Ahahaha, I'll just slip 'em to my family and make 'mmmmmmm' sounds!
Crappie? What is up with that name, anyway? Who looks at a menu and thinks yeah, Crappie, now that sounds like some good eatin' there!?
(you know, before you know how it's really pronounced)

'96 4runner....
Using conveyor belting (thank you 92 Toy, I was going to use drive belts but your idea is better) on the fender and to extend the mudflaps. Got the rear done and am now working on the fronts (after this storm finishes rolling through). The rears were easy but the fronts are more of a head scratcher.
Because I don't have enough room between the rear of the wheel well and the tire (and yes, it's been banged on with the Big Friendly Hammer) I am going to try building a hanger out of my left-over bits of aluminum and putting it a little further back, then running a strip partway along the wheel well.
Pics when I get somewhere with it. (Go away, rain and lightning!)
