Well they have this wonderful new fangled contraption called a "Vacuum Cleaner" it's this thing that comes in various shapes some up right, some are a can on wheels, some are built in... they even have ones that can suck up liquids!... if you were to borrow one with a brush head you could get rid of all those annoying bits of metal in short order...
You could even make a game of it and get the stoker to help...

You must have seen them they seem to be everywhere these days...

Hey hab loving the build! I still have yet to see your 4runner out on the road but i'll keep an eye out for it. My little sister wrecked my mom's car so i've been tooling around st. louis looking for a 3rd gen 4runner for mom and dad. give me a shout if you see any. I went over to a friend of mines land in potosi last sunday and wheeled the tar out of my pickup. Along with a little fishing and shooting the day was perfect. My buddy has 800 acres out there with about 20 miles of gnarly trails. If i get the invite to go out there again i'll give you a shout if you're interested. Kid friendly too if you wanna bring the youngens. Keep up the good work and by the way that blue is awesome. One of my favorite colors on a 4runner.

Cool, thanks! Saw your thread, looked like you had a great time down south. I've gotta get the cv's done before I do anything else...boots are cracking and I'd like to keep the joints as spares.
I'll keep an eye out for a 4runner (there's one on craigslist now, IL, just under 4,000, couple of small rust spots and betting it's got high miles) but had to go out of state to pick up the green one. Almost bought a very very clean 97 (no locker) manual with 134,000 miles for $5500 in Arkansas but the guy sold it the day before we were to meet him. Worked out better for us, anyway, we found the 99 a few days later and it was only a few hundred more. We used search Tempest, lots of ads to weed through but it was worth it for us.
Prices around here do seem to be coming down now that the soccer moms are moving on to the 4th gens.

Got my kit and I'm just about ready to go...gotta go get me a new jack and some stands tomorrow, mine is not tall enough for the 4Runner...was looking at craftsman, but they all have bad reviews...a little scared of harbor freight...they are cheap...but I want safe!

What about a railroad tie? just use a chain saw and cut her up into four equal pieces... if you cut straight no worries. very old school too

Good one

"blueberry hill"? Did he find his thrill? Fat's Domino would be proud...

Bought my LIFTING DEVICE Northern tool and equipment...got the rear springs and shocks installed...the top bolt was not as bad as I remember, but last time I did not drop the axle. Write-up coming soon...I have righted the wrong Toyota did to me over 10 years ago with these 2000 springs.

Sorry for the hi-"jack" hab

It's sitting in the tool box, waitin' for you, as is the crank pulley holder stiller (scientific name).

No prob, will be awaiting your build thread.

I've gotta get some sort of fizzy lifter, currently using my floor jack and 4 carefully placed 2x4s to get it high enough. Once I'm there my jack stands are juuuusssst tall enough to do the job. I like the idea of railroad ties.

Next up:
CV shafts (cracked boots, gonna replace and keep the old still good ones for spares)
"New" wheels (thanks to ERG80) and 1" wheel adapters (I think). I've got just enough threads for the quarter inch spacers I currently have but would like a little more, plus it does rub on rare occasion. I've gotta do some measuring.

Trying to decide whether to move up a tire size and put the 33's on the 99, or just keep what I've got and put other tires on the 99. I really like the LTX A/T's I've got on there already.....

Hey mightymouse, how'd you like that tornado??? Looks like it did the most damage a block south of your work? I was in KY getting buckets of rain thrown at me, going 50-55 in a 70, passing people who'd got themselves hydroplaned off the hwy.

Tetanus needs a shot to protect it from me.

Getting the crank bolt out after getting the pulleys lined up and that wasn't bad. The hydraulic tensioner tool took the worst part of job out of the equation.

Read the 4x4 wire instructions carefully....you'll be omitting steps 5, 10, 19 because of the tool.

good stuff! Where did you source your parts?

re: HI- jacking - i use a standard craftsman 4 ton floor jack with 1 piece of 4"x4" on top - the jack sinks into the wood - so it's at the primo spot every time - I go under the cross member and it JUST gets high enough to drop the from onto the jack stands (from harbor freight, FWIW - 4 ton'ers - had no problems with them in 4 years of use)

Ha ha yeah they shut down the mall but the resaurant was still open. We were dead so i took off early and went riding down at st. joes on sunday. You gotta love the news around here they find the biggest tree that fell on a house and blow things waaaaay out of proportion. I did stop in at the shell station that day before i went to work and of course the gas station employee was giving out the story to whomever would listen. She was like " it was crazy i never seen sumthin like dat" " it was like crazy you know" "I was scared and then the tornado came and then it split in two and lifted up some trees and every body was like parked at the gas station you know and i was like i'm going down stairs y'all" Well you get the picture. No real damage and as far as i know the twister was a weak one. I've had the pleasure of growing up part of my life in southern il. and believe me the tornado we had on sat was a tiny one compared to some of the big nasty ones i've seen. You get any fun damage where you live? I have a couple chain saws if ya need em.
