Funny you should ask...
Traded out the too wide hose clamps I'm using on the cv boots with skinny ones from a Land Rover. It may be goofy stretching the boots out and holding them that way with a wire but so far it's working!
The skids were needing some tlc so I handed some over:
You were asking about access to the oil drain plug, center hole just below center brace. Easy to get an extension in there but not so easy to get a hand in. Guess not that it matters as they don't make these anymore.

Looks great all painted up. Hmmm, once I get the skid (Budbuilt?) I just might enlarge the hole a bit for easier access if the hole it comes with is small.

Been having a clunk problem with the 96, rear this time. Started out small and got big, a clunk you can feel when the truck goes over uneven bumps. Hubby found the panhard bar to be making the noise and a lot of movement on the axle end. We thought bad bushing.
Since my panhard is from Sonoran Steel I contacted him about what to replace the bushing with. Steve said he could sell me what I needed for a very reasonable price and even offered to help out with the pressing! My Sonoran 1.2 has been on the truck for 2 1/2 years and Steve is just as helpful and patient now as he was when I bought his kit.
Anyway, pulled the panhard and found a broken washer. A piece was missing out of the top where I couldn't see. Guess that was enough to cause the play because I replaced the washer, flipped the bar around so the problem spot couild be better isolated, GREASED the sleeves (somehow missed that this should be a yearly thing, now it will be), bolted it up and had the hubby shake the poor beastie. No more excessive wiggle visible, no more clunk. I have to drive it tomorrow so we'll see, but I have great hope.
A broken washer! Pbbbt! I kinda feel dumb right now.
A big thumbs up to Steve at Sonoran Steel for his help and patience.
Thank you Steve!

Hey it was only a washer... ... if not for a daub of grease the truck was lost... if not for a truck the trip was lost... if not for a trip the family feast was lost... paraphrasing you gotta love it...

Great trail build weekend on the Ozark Trail. On Saturday drove to the build site a good long way on forest roads though only a few puddles and eroded spots. I'm gonna bet it was a lot more fun for me than the overloaded Jetta I was following! Hey! I didn't have to pick my way or go around anything....
Today while we were hiking Mina Sauk I heard a weird angry buzzy sound. Looked over to find what was making said noise and was a tad alarmed to see a rattle snake!
That was certainly a surprise.

I have a RS that has lived in the rocks across the street for the past few years. Mostly, I just see it moving through the dry grass later in the summer, sometimes I hear it. So far, it has not decided to take up residence on this side of the road.
That poor Jetta. lol.

It's the first time I've come across a rattler. Last fall we were out hiking when my 8 year old stopped short in front of me. I almost tripped over him and asked why he stopped, c'mon, let's get moving. He just pointed to the trail in front of him and calmly said "snake.". It was a big fat copperhead stretched across the trail. It not the first copperhead I've seen, but definitely the biggest.
You can keep your resident RS over there, thank you very much!

More camping and trail building on the OTA, playing at Johnson's Shut-ins and then Elephant rocks with the kid and me with a stinkin' cold. Still it was an awesome weekend.
Still waiting for that one things to hit the front porch via UPS stork and now I've got another something coming too. Pics to come soon, hopefully.
How was your Mother's Day weekend?

Spent it re-booting both CV axles and then Sunday afternoon with mom, dad, sister and her family. They all live about 100 miles away....a nice drive through the Columbia River Gorge to get there.
Spring colds are yucky, IMO. Hope you are back to 100% soon.
And, the suspense continues to build!! Looking forward to the pics of these mystery items.

Thanks Aviator!
Back to doing stuff to the truck, in between trail building:
.....
maybe I should've cleaned more than the spot I spit paint at. More later.

Hey Chef! More trail work. Adding some new trail in St. Charles, then to work on fixing that empty space in the truck. That's my idea of a great weekend. You have one too!

I've been researching this for quite awhile now and finally bit the bullet....
Got rid of battery hold down and front bracket for fuse box, mashed down lump a bit...
new bolts to hold in new Ruffstuff width-wise dual optima box, there's three...
Box in, batteries in.
