Hey... If you have a taste for fresh wild venison and it's not in season the only legal way to get some is "4 wheel harvesting"...

I dunno, what with sporting the stock tin foil bumpers I'm thinking the deer would stand up, dust himself off, give me a dirty look for interrupting his day then point his little deer toes at all the damage he'd caused and ROFL himself to death.

Then, and only then, would I get my venison.

Oh, and put a firestick antenna mount in the usual below the taillight spot for the flag. May be going to St. Joe again tomorrow to get all dirty.

I took out a yearling doe with my 87 one time... cost me a bumper and grill plastic stuff but the truck was still completely drivable otherwise... sadly the doe was so badly mangled internally from the hit (did'nt drive over it or anything, it bounced off) that all the meat was poisoned so it was inedible... if I'd been going a little slower I'd have had some sweet meat...

then again habsie you were, I recall, looking for a justification to get an ARB bumper were'nt you?

Wouldn't turn one down.

I'm trying to decide what I want bumper-wise. Would like a little protection along with a receiver but don't want a whole lot more weight.

Yes. Yes it would and I do like the shrockworks bumpers. Maybe by the time we're done paying for the kid's college everyone will be tired of theirs and I'll get one on the less expensive. :/ That or by that time someone will come up with exactly what I want. Heck, in that much time mebbe I'll learn to weld and make my own bumper!

Thanks to Advance Auto Parts in Fenton. They took those nearly 2 year old (pretty new looking) nasty Wearever pads back and gave me credit. All I showed them was the pads, receipt, pick of the dust and the truck itself with dust. The reaction to the amount of dust was priceless.

how was Washington state park today? We hiked the opossum trail you? Found a load of mushrooms. I'll post pics later. Can't miss your 4runner anywhere.

Ha! Small world! Funny you've never seen the 4Runner til you go out of town. It's some kind of color, ain't it? I don't remember any cool Toyota's on the lot, did you sneak in and out when I wasn't looking or was I being totally blind?

Perfect weather, my son and I hiked the Rockywood trail. We saw a 4' shed snake skin, several toads, red and yellow acorns, a bird nest and, of course, a ton of cool quartz. There were a bunch of little round brown mushrooms everywhere- are those what you are talking about?

i was parked over on the trail head for the opossum trail. we were in the little red truck so yeah easy to miss. Yes the little round ball like mushrooms. They are known as pear shaped puffball mushrooms and are a choice edible. We made a mushroom gravy and topped a couple steaks with them when we got home. i don't recommend picking up any mushrooms unless you are able to i.d. them and be darn sure you know what they are. This was only the second time i have ever found this type of mushroom so checking, double checking and sourcing a couple field reference guides before we took them home was standard practice as we are extremely careful. When i upload the pics i took this year i'll update the mushroom thread i started last year with a few of my finds as i kinda let it die for a while. As much as i like to hit the local parks for a hike i'm surprised we haven't run into each other more often.

That explains it. I went by that trailhead while hiking, but on the trail below the lot, then drove the other way while leaving the park. Seems every year there are a rash of amateur mushroom hunters with failing livers from mistaking what they picked. While mushroom gravy on steak sound really really good I'll stick to picking them up at the store!
I'm surprised too, we're always out hiking or biking.

What's a little magic 'shroom sauce between friends? LOL
Seriously though like the man said if in doubt leave it alone...
then again freshly foraged wild mushrooms have a taste all there own that cultivated ones can never achieve...

I don't know a darn thing about magic shrooms but.....

I do know I'm getting more than a little tired of changing out cvs. Today I saw joint grease where it wasn't supposed to be. Sure enough, a small slit in one of the right outer boot's lobes. At least I've gotten to the point where I can about do cvs in my sleep! Grease wasn't there when I changed out the brake pads, I haven't been off a road for a couple of weeks now and I've got no idea how this thing split perpendicular to the lobe, maybe 5mm. Yes, I am aware that I did this, what, two pages ago. Oy. If it's warrantable I'll go that route since to properly reboot it I've got to do more than half the work that gets it out. If not I'll just reboot it.

So, which one of you is messing with my junk just so I can keep y'all entertained with the same old boring cv change???

I might've spied Mightymouse on Manchester today??? Somebody has a nice red yota pickup at any rate.

96 4Runner 231,000 miles

Rear brake job today, no big deal. Leaking right rear axle seal. Small leak, replaced with spare I had laying around. I did find a clogged breather a little while back (extended, but had it just below the filler gasket- now it's above the filler gasket, accessible by the fuel door and staying much cleaner) and am hoping that's all it was. Will be keeping an eye on it.

Just a pcv valve and grommet. Pulled the front skid in preparation for the new cv but O'Reilly forgot to order it today so hopefully they get it in tomorrow.

How excited are you to be pulling CV shafts again for the 3rd or 4th time (???) in about a year?

Could have SAS'ed it by now for all the effort. :p

Could've but somebody keeps sticking all the spare change into the V O L V O.....

You know I'm excited. This'll be the 3rd shaft, none with bad joints, just bad boots. I'd be out there changing the shaft right this instant if I didn't have to go to work in a few. You know, to help fund the VOLVO, um, I mean kid's college.
Can't wait. I'm even gonna do it in the rain if it's raining and the sun if it's sunning.

CV shaft torque 174 ft lb
4 Lower ball joint bolts 59 ft lb and loctite
ball joint bolt 105 ft lb (didn't have to undo that but writing it here as reference)
Wabfab adapter lug nuts 100 ft lb and loctite

More later....
Ok, right side cv shaft. Again. While I was at it I replaced the seal in the diff at the axle:
Right side of the front diff where the axle goes in

seal removed

and cleaned up a little

new seal installed.

I did this!
