I wonder if you can get the poly bushings out without destroying them. I want poly bushings in my new rack when I put it in and the ones in my old rack aren't that old, I guess for the price it's not a big deal to buy new ones tho. Just thinking out loud lol. Good job as usual hab, it's no fun doing this stuff in the cold.
Jason- I started to pull the left side poly bushing out of my old rack....I think it's doable though I didn't finish it did start coming out. I think the trick would be (and what I didn't have) finding something to push the sleeve out first, slightly smaller than the sleeve so it doesn't become the sleeve. After that no worries, right? Two halves and tada.
The hardest one would be that left side because of its length.
Replaced the power steering pump today. I was going to document with pics but it was too messy for the camera and I was too cold (excuses excuses). At least the wind was much lighter and the sun was out for the first part of it. I will throw some pics up later. Just got to flush it and I should be good to go.
Waiting for the rain to move out too, looks like I'll get a not-too-rainy window to get that flush done in a little bit. We've not had much in the way of snow here, either, seems like it's been a pretty dry winter.

Buttoned up, flushed, double checked my bolts and belts and started it up. NOISE. WD-40 on the pump shaft quiets it right down until it wears off, then noise again. Pfui!

If anyone's got any ideas..... It didn't sound bad when I got it out of the box and turned it by hand. Bolts all tight, belt not too tight, flushed, steering itself working great. Would it really be my luck to get to do this in winter twice? Ideas?

I'm thinking bad one too. What's the odds, even if it is Cardone? They're just so straightforward it's hard to imagine what I could have done wrong. Still, not ruling the me factor out.
The pulley. When I took the nut off I expected to have to use a puller to get the pulley off. Nope, popped right off. When I put it back on I simply lined up the splines and put it on, then tightened the nut. What I failed to do was notice that the shaft has a collar which the pulley must butt up to. Today I tightened it A LOT until it was up against the collar. Seems to have made the horrible loud rattly-squealy noise go away.
How embarrassing. The only good thing about it is that now I know what I should've known in the first place. Once spotted it was a ka-duh moment that's left me face palming all day.

Ordered a new hood support grommet and two new hood stops for the 96 today.

Other than that little snafu the power steering pump is somewhat messy and pretty easy.
I've got a sucker-outer I used to get the fluid out of the reservoir, then capped the return line barb on the reservoir and plugged the return line with vacuum caps. Then I took the pump off. The release for the belt adjuster is 14mm and in front by the pulley, it's connected to the adjuster bolt underneath the pump.
To flush I used a hose barb that fit into the return line (took the vacuum cap plug out) with a bit of extra hose that I fed into a 2 litre bottle set where I could easily eyeball it. Then I put the front end up on jack stands so the wheels could turn freely, key on engine off, and had the kid slowly turn the steering wheel lock to lock back and forth while I kept the reservoir full and kept an eye on the color of the fluid coming out. When I was satisfied I'd gotten the bubbles and nasty fluid out I pulled the vacuum cap off the return line barb and clamped the return line onto it.
That part went smoothly enough. Actually, it all went pretty smoothly. I did not take the pulley off until after I got the pump out of the truck because of room issues concerning the fan and shroud. Some bolts you will have to get to through the pulley holes.
I'll have to look at the camera to see if I got anything useful.

Unscrew old, screw in new to needed height
Hood Support Grommet part# 90480-15028
Pop out old (mine fell out), take off of hood support. Snap new into front support, then push hood support in until it's at the proper spot. It goes in kinda tight.
Maybe I should've studied my own photos....before, the pulley is clearly against the shoulder
and after, it is not.
Some days are on top of things days, some days, not so much. All is good now, and working great, thank goodness! Maybe if it hadn't been so stupid cold (excuses )....
Yep! Definitely a difference in the pulley location in the photos. Glad it's all good now. The only reasonable explanation for this minor dealio is working in the cold....it's a good excuse....stick with it!
I know! I can't believe how off I was and how obvious it was and how blatantly I missed it. A bit of numb-headedness. I'm not typically so cavalier when figuring things out, especially something so simple. Maybe I let 'simple' delude me into carelessness? Maybe several hours in 30 degree weather isn't my thing? I've resolved to be a lot more diligent on the next project. Well that, and a lot warmer!
