I'll have to look up just to be safe online or in the plants of the Northwest book I have.
AFAIK, I've never had a reaction to it either. At least I do know the leaves of three dealio.
Yikes, poor kids! Silly scout leader. ;(

Plugs from the left bank w/ 45,000 miles on them
Cyl 2 (driver front)
Cyl 4 (driver middle)
Cyl 6 (driver rear)
Still gotta pull the right bank to compare. They seem pretty deposity to me, tell me I'm wrong.

Electrodes look worn, gap wide? Mine get changed every 20-30k and I can't recall seeing much on them. Sorry...no input on 45k plugs.

I think those plugs look just fine for 45,000mi. I'd change them out for a new set just like them.
Some brands of fuel and oil leave a bit more ash than other brands do.
I don't think the deposits are excessive for the mileage that has been run.

Changed the spark plugs, replaced with another set of NGK BKR5EKB-11
Also cleaned the MAF 'cause it was there.
Pulled the other 3 plugs and yep, they're all worn about the same, with about the same deposits on them. Have I really never let them go that long? Don't remember them ever being that cruddy. Thanks for the reassurance rw and millball!
The hubby says I'm just hunting for reasons to play with the truck. Well, duh!

As a lot of you know, it's an easy job. All I needed was a short 12mm socket, a 10mm socket, a couple of extensions to get down into the spark plug tube and a 5/8" spark plug socket.
And anti-seize. I know some are fer and some again'. I'm a fer.
I took off the intake tube, then 6 bolts and 3 plugs,
3 on the left side- the black bracket at the back (which should then be able to move frontwards or rearwards as needed- may have to also loosen the bottom bolt if it won't, silver bracket in the middle and ground in the lower intake near the front.
3 on the right side, 1 for each coil pack (yellow circles) and unplug the coils (orange circles)
Carefully pull the plug wires out of the left side valve cover/spark plug tube, and the coil packs out on the right side. I left the wires all attached so I wouldn't have to remember
rear
5 6
3 4
1 2
front
order: 1,2,3,4,5,6
and it was easy enough.
Seat spark plug socket solidly onto spark plug and unscrew plugs and pull them out using plug socket. Anti-seize new plugs and 'hand' screw them in to make sure no cross threading because that would be bad,
then use wrench to tighten. Not too little, not too much. I do not have the torque specs for these. Edit: See post quote from rw below- thanks rw.
put plug wires back on (you can feel them seat, plus they will sit flush on the valve cover and the coils back on w/screw and plug them in. Put the intake tube back on and bolt the 2 brackets and 1 ground in to their proper places. Make sure the hose is back in the hook on the black bracket where it belongs.
What did I forget?
EDIT:
Dielectric grease! I knew there was something my remembery wasn't remembering! Thanks for both the torque specs and that jog, rw!

Nice, clear pics and instructions, Hab!
For the 5vz-fe, per FSM:
Spark plug torque: 13 ft-lbs
Ignition coils: 69 in-lbs.....NOT ft-lbs
Color coded spark plug wire routing diagram.
I use a little dielectric grease on the inside of the boots...it seems to help on the next removal. I'm a for on the anti-seize lubricant also.

Hey Hab, is the rig in moth balls or just sitting collecting dust???? No posts in here for nearly two weeks......me thinks I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms. Haha Yup, wondering how you guys are doing and what's happening on the rigs.

Good morning rw! Has it really been that long? It's trail building season again, we've been busy working on a reroute for the Berryman trail. From the Ozark Trail Association, 169 people, 2100 volunteer hours total, .6 mile of new trail:
I did drive the 96 there both weekends, does that count?

It's good as long as the local police know the difference between okra plants and wacky weed plants. Seems the police recently got them a bit confused and did a middle of the night raid on a poor guys okra plants that were not much more than knee high. Now, that's crazy.
