5vz engine? Just curious, where do you buy your d3 filter?

Oh, I was gonna say, that engine takes a D1 filter. Aka a G1 for the old school guys. A d3 is a bigger filter, used on the newer 2nd gen tacomas with the 1gr motor. The 5vz uses a d1.

Some of us are using larger filters with our 3.4s because can.

Lol okay. Well I just don't see the point in that because it just makes it harder to change due to the filter being against the frame.

I've never run into a clearance issue with the bigger filter. And even if it was close, the 30% more filter medium is worth a busted knuckle.

I've run D3s in my 2 4Rs and and my 22RE Pick-Up. Why limit your filtration?

Even though both the filters have the same volume...and why lose oil pressure...okay

Oil Change (Valveline High Mileage and a D3 filter)

CEL came back for a few hours as a TPS gremlin.

Coming home from work the truck had a very bad hesitation and miss along with a blinking CEL... not good.

Replaced the plugs with NGK BKR5EKB-11 from the NGK BKR5EIX-11 single electrode ones that were in it. Why do people use single electrode plugs?!?! There is a sign on the timing belt cover that specifically says use double electrode not single.

Replaced the wires too with some NAPA lifetime jobs since the current ones looked a bit rough.

So far smooth running on my test drive around the neighborhood.

Miss is back, big time, and solid CEL for TPS and miss on each cylinder.

Let it sit for a few hours and go for a spin and its running like a champ

Better but not right...

I have been struggling to find the cause and remedy for an on going miss and p0302 code I have.

It started one day driving home from work. It was hot, I was in traffic, I went to accelerate and I have a noticeable shudder and a blinking CEL. At home I scanned it to find both a fault and pending p0302.

Okay, a miss in the #2 cylinder. New plugs and wires and everything was good. Unless I would restart the truck after it was hot and sat for a few minutes (heat soak), then I had the miss back.

Moved the coils around to see if the miss moved... No

Moved the plug wires around to see if the miss moved ... No

Ran a can of Seafoam thru the tank just for giggles.

So I continued to drive it as collected parts and time. During the 1k or so miles I drove under these conditions, it would run fine when cold and for quite some time. I drove to my in-laws and had 2+ hours and 120 miles of uneventful driving before the miss occurred.

If I drove while I was having the miss sometimes P0300, P0301, and P0171 would show up.

Several people have suggested a HG. While I haven't completely ruled that out, I find it unlikely that it would show flawless conditions for so long before it failed. Plus if it was a HG why would it set codes on the opposite bank at times???

Research has led me to believe I have a bad injector. Today I replaced all six with remans. During the test drive, I still have a slight miss closer to a hesitation. Nowhere near what it was. My scanner says I have codes P0300, P0301, and P0171 pending.

Could just a vacuum leak of unmetered air cause this?

I tried a new MAF sensor in vain after cleaning my original. I had some surging and believe the sensor maybe on its way out. So I replaced it with a fresh Denso sensor.

I replaced the injectors on the 2 cylinders that were still showing signs of misses #1 & #4.

I currently have no missing, hesitation, or CEL.

All this trouble over 2 maybe 3 dieting injectors.

Hope the injectors do the trick for you, fierohink.

But I got a chip in my windshield.

Oil Change (Valveline High Mileage and a D3 filter)

Also still no CEL or hesitation. I am officially calling my injector issue finished.

Rotated tires, checked brakes (all good), gave everything a greasing and once over and found my coolant tubes for the rear heat are pretty scabbed up. Another thing to order and have waiting around until I have time (which is never )

I will probably need a set of tires before the winter. They are 3/32 and 5/32.

Anybody have recommendations for mostly road going tires but the occasional run thru muddy grass or snow? In MD we generally see a few dustings each winter and then one or two 6-12 inchers. And being a firefighter I don't have the luxury of taking a snow day.

Oil change and filter.

I have a 5 gallon bucket of ATF, filter, and gasket just waiting for a warm spell to flush the trans.

Hush you timing belt, I know you want some attention too.
