I remember having a 5spd in my '86 4Runner. It wasn't too bad, but I hated having it in "stop-n-go" traffic. I've always enjoyed an auto in a SUV and a 5spd in a sports car.

To each his own.

I like the Taomas over any of the other Toyotas and always have. Wish I had a really nice 98 SR5, Auto , 4x4. My 01 Tacoma is like new and I keep it that way even though I'm off road all the time but I really like the looks of 98 over any of them. Don't like the 05 and up at all, Mike

So, does anyone with a 99 have their stock suspension?? I have an 01 and I dont want to lift it more than an inch or so..... for now.
I'll trade my stock suspension plus a couple bucks or whatever.

I doubt anybody would trade for the shorter springs but new '99 OEM coils and shocks only ran me about $350 plus shipping.

The plan for the SS lift is slowly coming together for my runner. I was planning on selling the stock suspension since its still in really good shape. But its probobly not worth it to anyone in the states.

On a side note, what gen supra's did you guys own. Ive always had a dream to get one (almost had a mk2), maybe in 20 years or so.

Have you looked into PP 1" springs, they are great and the ride is a lot better.

Yes,the Billies and PP springs are better and can be had for a little more than $200 more if it's in your budget. Unfortunatly it wasn't in mine at the time but OEM still does nice off road but it would be nicer to have a couple of more inches.

Derk and I both have MKIII Supras. Mine is a 1988 5-speed turbo making in the low-400 hp range.

Im stoked you guys kept them moderatly stock looking (i dont know much about mkIII's), too many people are doing body kits these days. Are the cars pretty easy and cheep to get power out of them, or alot of money and work?

Sorry for hijacking the thread, these cars are just as cool as 4runners.

stock looking lines on the MK3s look best. Bodykits don't flow very well with the lines on the MK3 so this is why most true MK3 enthusiasts keep them stock looking. A nice set of deep dish rims, a nice front lip, and a nice drop ips all it takes to make the MK3 a boner mobile.

Initial purchase of these cars are pretty cheap for what you get. HOWEVER the famous 7m motors that come in these cars are more prone to head gasket failures then the 3.0L 4runner motors AND they aren't a recall so you must fix it yourself. Alsp on a METAL HEAD GASKET and torque it down to 90 ft/lbs and you'll be set. Other then that they are great cars and make power easily. Exhaust, intercooler, pipes, injectors, fuel pump, SAFC, boost controller and stock turbo upgraded to a 60-1 trim can yeild 440 HP and 468 ft/lbs of torque.

The 7M is one of the least expensive engines to build big power numbers. They run low boost from the factory (only 6 psi to my girlfriend's Legacy turbo running 13.5 psi), and the motor supports huge numbers on stock internals.

Derk--your car looks great! I didn't know you had it painted. I haven't been on supraforums lately...trying to stay away so I don't know what I'm missing.

I keep on seeing mkIII's around for 5000 to 7000 canadian. I wondered if there was a problem with them. The mkIV's seem to sell between 35000 and 45000 canadian. Mk II you can pick up for 400 bucks, haha.

Supra's are such nice cars, but i don't really like driving cars, especially for a DD.

As for 4runners... i think that almost all 3rd gens have rear end sag. Mine has gotten pretty bad, like standing away from the trucks it's very noticacble 1-2" sag... but i plan on fixing that when i purchase a daystar 2.5" lift w/ the new rear coils

The only thing i hate about my 98 SR5 is the stupid cup holders! they can't hold a drink worth a crap and it sucks going to football practice in the morning w/ a water in the cup holder, make the turn into the school and have it spill on you. haha

I know it's probaly too late, but just by looking at that 4Runner, I can believably say that 4Runner is a 4cyl, and 2wd. That is how all the 4cyl's look, and I hate them. I wouldn't want to get a 4cyl in these, since the 3.0 I have in mine is slow, I can't even begin to imagine what the 4cyl would be like.
