Still, anything modded will be a harder sell to a wide target buyer. Even your truck as mildy modded still fits a certain look and it does lean toward a guy's truck so it eliminates many female buyers no matter what age. A stock vehicle simply suits a wider range of people even if sitting next to a modded truck.

You mentioned that stock runners with comparable mileage were going for your asking price. However, that's the asking price. They could be selling for 100's or even 1000's lower at the end of the day.

I picked up an '00 Limited for $6921 w/ 130K in decent shape. Dealer was asking $9999, then to $8900, followed by $7900 and realized I wasn't biting. Showed me what he "paid" for the trade, made the comment he made a mistake in taking the trade (ford dealer) and will be taking a loss on the deal after all the overhead and repairs they made. They gave the original owner $6500 for it, put over $1k into it. He'd rather cut his losses than let it sit on his lot. It was sitting there for nearly 4 months before I bought it.

Nice runner by the way.

I stopped at a few dealerships this weekend. Both of them offered 6,500 in trade in so that might be my option. I was afraid the trade in would be something stupid like 3,500 so I never bothered.

Husker runner.. You paid 6,500 for a bone stock 8 year old truck with 130,000? Seems like mine would sale for that too then. Considering if you wanted to modify it like most all of the trucks on this forum you are going to need to put another 5,000 into it for lift, tires, gears and everything else you are going to need. That is unless you just keep it stock.

Too bad you're not in (or closer) to Denver...I'd be happy to take that off your hands.

I wish I was closer to Denver too. I have seen a few Land Cruisers I want to buy out there.
I am thinking about just dropping the price here and there to gain a little more interest. Now asking $6,800. It's getting closer to winter now that fall has come. Maybe people will start thinking about snow soon!

I would imagine that lifted and locked grocery getters aren't in very high demand.
Just my thoughts....maybe there are some soccer mom's who will need 4wd in their SUV to get their kids to practice.

Nope, paid $6921. The dealer gave the original owner $6500 back in late April. This is my commuter and to make weekend home improvement runs so I won't be doing any mods to it. Looking to get another early 90'ish PU or 2nd gen runner for my off road rig when time allows.

Not sure what year you're looking for in a Cruiser. But I was close to picking this up before I made my runner purchase. It seems pretty clean.

Looks like all I had to do was keep dropping the price to below what I wanted to get out of it! I dropped it to $6,500 and have taken 6 calls on it this weekend. Not sold as of yet but it feels like something may happen soon! I'll let you guys know what a lifted 4Runner is worth once it sales. Don't get to excited though, It will be a depressing number unfortunatley. Well for the seller not the buyer!

Good luck to ya 4runnin2. I have found out that lifted trucks or SUV's in your case, are always a bitch to sell. A lift literally narrows the prospective group of buyers down to a small portion of the population. Not too many people are wanting lifted trucks with fuel prices the way they are right now.
Hope you sell her and don't lose too much off your asking price.
peace

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, dont sell that truck! Thats gotta be the nicest 4runnner I've ever seen, dont loose her!
Just buy a crappy small car, like an accord, or corrola or something, the old ones can be bought really cheap, drive it into the ground then buy another small car, but never, ever, sell that truck or i'll find you and slap you in the thinking organ. Do Ya Hear boy!

Don't want to hijack this thread.. but not sure if it's worth starting a new thread for. Does anyone know if those black bumpers will fit on a 99 Runner? I'm thinking they'd look alot nicer than the chrome..

The rear one has to be custom built. Around $1400 and the front was just an ARB about $800-$900. But yeah they look nicer than the chrome ones.

good luck w/ selling your rig. modded trucks are hard to sell, and youll be lucky if you get ¢25 on the dollar for mods. yours is a nice clean specimen though. did you post up on ih8mud to see if anyone would be willing to trade? might get you that much closer to an 80...not sure how that would fit in your quest for a 30mpg vehicle though...

i was fortunate enough to get $14,000 for mine when i sold it earlier this year. this was just before gas prices started to get outta control. i think the dual lockers (arb front/elocker rear) regeared made a big difference as those tend to be the priciest mods that nobody wants to pay for. not sure if yours is as equipped.

hopefully you'll get your bottom line asking price. its sad when even cruisers are going for as low as 5 grand these days...sign of the times for sure. good luck.

Is $5500 a good price for a 130k-mile '99 SR5 4wd with good maintenance history?

Or is it a shady suspicious "too good to be true" price??

I don't see the relevence to my thread but I would say that is about average for a stock truck nowadays.

For what its worth.....When I sold my 4Runner, I had to really think about this move. As most of the old timers on this board know, I put a lot into my 4Runner, and the capability of this 4Runner is quite cool. When I finally decided it was time to part with it, I priced it for the current market,
not what I had into it. I knew full well that any mods that I put into it don't mean squat when it comes to resale, especially one that has as many mods as I had. So, I did a bit of research, found out what my competition was selling for (any other modified 4Runner currently on the market when I was selling mine) and marked my price accordingly.

So, don't look at what you have into the rig.....if you do, you'll want to keep it, as you know all the money you have into it will never be recouped. Don't know if you are still going to try and sell it, but you really need to consider the market (and right now its in pretty bad shape) and what you think people can really afford. Then you have to come to terms with that price, and decide if you can live with that price if the vehicle sells at that price.

just my two cents from one who has sold his beast.

Steve,

Some good advice there. I have taken most of what you said into consideration here lately. Stockers with bald tires and around the same milage are going for around $5500 to $6500 here lately so I think my price is pretty good on it right now. It will still have to be someone who wants this type of rig so it all kind of depends on that, Even though the whole market sucks right now. I think I would just park it in the garage and let it set for anything less than $6500.
