Would you? Brakes for $190

So I am due for front brakes on my '00 SR5. Whenever I stop it feels like my rotors are shaped like Pringles. I was going to do the standard Brembo blanks/OEM pad combo which is praised on YT.com...BUT I just saw that my local Toyota dealership is running a front brake special this month for $190, as well as the "rear brake clean and adjustment."
I only drive about 7000 miles a year and the brembo/oem pads would probably run $140-150 for parts alone, so this sounds like a good deal for $190.
Your thoughts?

Front Brakes ONLY $189.95 30-Dec-06
STAY SAFE Rear Brake Clean & Adjust Add for ONLY $1.00
Offer available through Harr Toyota or Harr Dodge Service Departments only.

Haha...my rotors were warped when I bought my truck, and they fixed it because somehow, someone forgot to realize that warped rotors doesn't equal a Toyota Certied truck. Anyways, with a whole new front end breaking system, the problem came back after another 10k miles. The stock rotors just can't handle the heat that's put to them, as OEM pads are hard compund and therefore bad at absorbing/dissipating heat.

If you want the problem to be solved permanently, then buy the better rotors.
....a deal on a brake job is not a deal if you need to redo it in 10k miles.

yeah i would do it myself and get the better set up, brakes are easy, 30-45 minutes a side. the rear brakes are easy to adjust and clean too.

If I had time I'd like to do it, but that just isn't an option right now. 30-45 minutes probably wouldn't be happening either with what 6 winters will do to nuts and bolts around here.

There is no way that price includes new rotors...so be prepared to shell out the extra cash for them.

You might want to call just for kicks though. I hope you prove me wrong.

I bought my 4Runner with new pads on the front. but the rotor's were junk, If you had to slow down fast a "High Way Speed," they would viberate sooo bad that you could almost lose control.... So I ordered a set of racing rotors from a company in Canada, all drilled and special treated for heat like $70 per rotor, and then I also replace the pads with some special pad...... The parets alone were $167 plus shipping... I had a local mechanic shop that a friend ownes do the work and the guy who put them on had never seen rotors like them before, he said he can't wait and see how long they will last. He said that he expects that they will last as long as the 4Runner will....

I can honestly say that I did get my moneys worth.... I have never had a breaking system preform like these have.... I just can't believe how much control I have over the old brakes.... Very good feel and excelent stopping power... They are suppose to stop you 75 feet sooner than stock breaks at 60-0 MPH. I really think they will.... TJ

Brembo blanks are highly over rated IMO, in a few months your not going to be able to tell the difference between them and a rotor off the shelf at you local Napa

Probably not, that'll come in the phone call, you all know the one

"Hello Mr Smith, it's John at ***** Toyota. We started doing your brakes and the mechanic recommends we replace the rotors, and one of your calipers looks a bit dirty. We could put on some rebuild ones while we're doing the work, it'll save some labour in the future. The total for all that will only be an arm and a leg, and your first born child."

I have 96 K miles on my 4Runner and it on original rotors and pads OEM setup.
I also tow my boat (2500 Lbs) and I live in Texas so there is plenty of HEAT :-))
I just thought I share my experience with OEM brakes..

I disagree.

I ran the off the shelf ones and the warped in 5 months.

I have had brembos for over a year and have had no problems.

No way did you pay 54$ for rotors & pads. The pads alone are $40. Unless ofcoarse you got them at napa/checker/autozone...etc. Then youll be changing them very soon.

Brief update: I called them this morning to ask what the $190 brake job included and their response was "Don't know what you are talking about...can you print out the coupon and bring it in?"

I half expected it to be mysteriously missing from their website when I got home. We'll see tomorrow.

No, that's just another tactic to "get you in the door." Don't become a victim!
