Which winch on your 3rd Gen

So, what winch do you have in your 3rd gen? I'm getting an ARB here soon, and A winch to go with it, just looking to see what others are running in our trucks, which are quite heavy compared to Tacomas, or other trucks.

I'm looking at the Smittybuilt XRC10 now, got good reviews, and the price is right.

anyone know if that will fit in a Tacoma bar?

Summit has their Summit 9k (rebadged T-maxx 9k) on sale right now for $403.95, search around for reviews.

I've read good things about the smittybuilt xrc8's, but "It is a private label winch built in China by Milemarker for Transamerican Auto (parent company of Smittybilt, 4Wheel Parts, Explorer ProComp and 4wd Hardware)" http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=590833

Warn M8000. If you almost always use a snatchblock, then you don't really need a 9k.

I'd go 9000. I've stalled my M9000 on a few occasions with my 2nd Gen Runner.

i bought the XR8 from smitty. i have yet to use it but it was the cheapest with sythetic line that i could find. its portable on a multi mount so the weight savings was important. it seems to have good reviews though time will tell

I have the ARB Tacoma brush guard and am running the Warm M8000. Fits in the ARB with minor work (rotating the gear housing) so you can reach the free spool level. No complaints so far! I do use a snatch block though...

I have a Warn 9.5XP and they are well worth the money over a M8000. Over the summer I got stuck and hooked up to a Ford diesel Excursion as a tie point. When my runner dug in, that 9.5XP started dragging HIM.

But as the saying goes its only as strong as the weakest link and if your using an ARB or any bumper that bolts on like an ARB then you MUST do the END CAP mod or you will liberate your bumper during a heavy pull

Pretty much the answers i expected. Warn is a little too pricey for my taste really. Even the 8k model.

Just remember that you get what you pay for quality wise. And you cannot get warranty service on it when your stuck in a mud hole
