will 4.88 stock gears from v-6 auto fit ....
i currently have yukon 4.88 gears in my 1995 4runner, but recently i lost the pinion gear on the rear end , total loss striped completly.
i called one 4wheel parts supplier and they said the aftermarket 4.88 gears have been on back order for some time , due to some kind of manufacturing flaw. the use of shims ot make it fit essentially .
well after some research i find out the v-6 automatics came with 4.88 from the factory, in this thinking, wouldnt the stock ring and pionion from a auto v-6 fit my aftermarket application for 4.88's in my 5 speed ?
is there some kind of difference between the auto's and 5 speeds ?
to make matters complicated a bit more , i have a rear detriot locker, so maybe the stock ring and pinion from the auto v-6 isnt strong enough to deal with the locker.
any help greatly appreciated, that shop its sitting at , tried calling around on saturday to find the ring and pinion set , but of course everything was closed or couldnt check .
if i can pick up a set fro ma junkyard out of a v-6 auto, i might just trailer the vehicle home and start hitting the junkyards instead.

You can bolt the whole 3rd member up to your truck no problem. But from what I understand, the stock 4.88 gears will only work in a 4.88 3rd member, meaning, you cannot take just the ring and pinion out of the stock 3rd member and put it in a different 3rd member.
Not sure if the detroit would work in a factory 4.88 diff either, I'm thinking not though.
