Will 285 75 16 fit?

Will 285 75 16 fit?
I have searched and read threads, but wanted some more insight.
I have a 1997 4 Runner 3.4 5 speed
Rev Tek with top out, taco springs, tokico struts, 891s and kyb out back
I am running stock 16 X 7 alum rims, will 285 75 16 tires clear? the truck mainly sees road driving and sometimes on the beach, it is not a rock crawler that sees full wheel well stuffing.
I dont mind trimming the pinch weld, I may also trim the bumper in the area where it is close to the front of the front tire.
Please advise, I really dont want to do a body lift if I dont need to.
Regards, Tim

you can just beat the pinch weld back with a hammer, your rubbing issues are going to come from the upper control arm, it should clear under normal driving but a bump or a pothole and the tire will bulge into the control arm, sonoran steel offfers shaved arms, i do not have any experience with this product though, also you can get wheel spacers if you do not want to get a deeper offset wheel. good luck

i honestly do not know about the LC wheels or their back spacing, it seems like the 96-97 body styles had a deeper offset than we are running, but i do not know it could just appear that way, as far as lug nuts i know that they are pretty wheel specific, i had to get some from the dealer once and they wanted my vin #. also i have heard of people running 285's on here with out any problems, this is just my experince with 285' and 305's good luck on your decission.

simply put - NO. you cannot run 285's on stock 16x7 wheels (4.375" Backspacing by the way) without either having custom upper A-Arms or wheel spacers. The tire will contact the upper arm so bad that you won't be able to mount them.
you can also do a 16x8 wheel with a minimum backspacing of 4.5" (lower the number, the more the wheel sticks out) out to about a 4.0" backspacing. that will give you the added width to keep the tire from bubbling out and contacting the upper arm.

Bachememammeme (or whatever his name is)
hooked me up with the info
the LC wheels free up some backspacing
I just ordered my LC wheels, they will arrive Friday....I paid 50 bucks each!!! alum factory mags...
they are gaureneeururteed, (or however you spell that) not to be bent or have curb rash
they also have many more of these wheels

it's strange. i have 295 on 17inch wheels with 4.75 b.s. fits with no problem.
so i think he will be fine. but i don't know if you can mount 285 tire on 7inch wide wheel

i think you can do it with minor triming.

i think it's cause it's a 7-inch-wide wheel and a 11.5-inch-wide tire, but then again, i have an 8-inch wheel and a 12.5-inch tire...
the tire bulges out on the sides more (???) or something and causes rubbing i guess... all i do know is that a 285 on a 16x7 won't work on a runner w/o spacers or custom/trimmed upper arms.

I also have Donahoe extended coilovers. Maybe that has something to do w/ it??
BTW, I just got through mod'ing my pinch weld yesterday. I was rubbing with my fronts set at 2" lift, so I brought out the old Dewalt grinder and fixed that!
edit**
Do you think that the extra length of the extended coilovers has the upper arm at a different angle?

Didn't you have 285's before the coilovers?

I am running 285/75/16 BFG AT on a stock 3 spoke split design 16x7 wheel with the Revtek kit front and rear with no rubbing. The tire is close to my upper A-Arm but does not rub anything at all. I took it out to UNF and done a little wheeling last Sat. and still no problems. I can't seem to figure out why it will work on some and not on others. I have posted a pic so everbody can see what wheel I am taliking about. I think they are 16x7, correct me if I am wrong.

it must be the sidewall lugs of a MT or MT/R that cause them to rub then.
good to know that you can run AT's or street tires in a 285 size on the stock 16x7's. i didn't realize that. i guess you do learn something new every day...

I also think the LC wheels give it a different look, Ive owned my truck 4 years so time to change it up a little anyway.
Good to see this has developed into a helpful thread, I am sure others will benefit, as I have from the info!

THe LC rims are great. Like someone said, I also rubbed on the frame at full turn with 265/75R16 BFG MT on stock 16x7 rims. Now with 285/75R16 BFG MT on the 16x8 LC rims I do not. Only lift I added for the 285's was a 1" Body Lift. I air down to 12-13 psi while wheeling and stil no rubbing on the a arms. I really like the LC rims. Fits the 3rd Gens so well.
