Why don't they make clear tailights for the 1st gens?
I think this is a major oversight by the aftermarket auto parts industry by not offering clear Altezza(?) tailights for the 1st gen 4Runners/'84-'88 PU's.
They have them for the '89-'95 models and the '95+ Tacos, but nothing for the 1st gens. However, they do make clear parking lamps for the 1st gens, but no tailights.
I see a huge untapped ($$$$) market here for people who want to customize their trucks up a little and make them look a little different than stock. There's still alot of 1st gen 'Runners and '84-'88 PU's still on the road these days.
If they were to make them, I would like them to have black accents inside along with the clear/chrome and red/amber lens sections. I don't want just a cheap looking clear lens over the tailight assembly with colored bulbs. Yuck! That would look kind of ugly IMO. LOL!
What does everyone around here think?

They do make Altezza and all Clear tailights for the 1st gens 4runners and 84-89 Pick-ups. When searching on ebay, you'll find them for the pick-ups, but they are interchangeable with the 4runners.

Vato Loco,
They do actually make Altezzas for the 1st gen 'Runners and '84-'88 Pu's?
Every place I've been to locally, that carries stuff like this for our trucks, says they don't make 'em for the 1st gens.
If at all possible, would you be able to post a pic on here of what they look like?
Thanks.

Are you talking about clear tail lights or altezza style tail lights? They make altezzas for 1st and 3rd generation 4runners however they don't make them for 2nd generation 4runners. 2nd generation 4runners are the only generation that doesn't have altezza style tail lights available for them.

I actually saw a first gen truck that looked awesome with them. It was a black truck with white corners, turn signals, and white brake lights. Looked very clean. So there are some trucks it can look good on, and I have even debated the clear corners/bumpers for my black truck... But I love the oldschool bright orange!

I saw a white Tacoma today on the commute home with clear tails.
They were not the full blown Alteza's, but they had the red in the center for the break light.
I thought it looked very nice.

BigBadBlue,
Yeah, you might be right. LOL! The thing is, I don't have a single ricer mod on my truck. Not even the white faced gauges and the "painted" lower dash radio bezel. They always like to paint up their dashboards with that ridiculous flat white paint for some reason.LOL!
I do see alot of hacked-up pre-runner style trucks around here that have those cartoonish fiberglass front and rear fenders that stick out over the wheels though. The problem is, they don't even see fit to paint them to match the rest of the truck. They drive around with their front-ends sticking up in the air with a truck that looks like it's unfinished.
Like the Honda ricers with their "combat" body-kits that are still in white fiberglass gel-coat. Yuck!
