whos got intake on their 2nd generation 4runner?
I tried to do the ISR for my 4runner, but the pipe wasn't bent right. Anyone got the K&N intake or downey's intake? Notice any improvement? Anyone successfully completed the ISR on a second generation? Got any tips? thanks!

K+N here
I have the K+N open eliment (cone on pipe) on my 92 v6 4Runner. I can't tell you if it made a difference because it was on when I bought it. I have seen dyno tests on misc. autos that backup the hp increse claims. If you expecting more than 5hp though, keep dreaming. I like it myself, no probs yet, even in deep water. Ypu would have to really douse it to drown the engine. Of course then you have ignition probs too. I work at a large reservation/camp over the summers and it is so dry and dusty I found myself cleaning my filter every 20 days or so. A lot cheaper than new ones.

Yep, I've done it. I used a 4" long piece of 3" PVC glued to a 22.5 degree angle. I then used this thick 3" to 3" rubber hose clamp for the PVC to AFM connection. I then turned the rubber piece coming off the TB sideways and inserted it into the 3" PVC. I used a rubber 3" rubber piece and 2 hose clamps to secure that. I then drilled a hole in the PVC and glued a barb fitting into it. I used PVC primer and glue for all my connections. No problems yet. I also cut a big hole out of my air box. The part I cut our was the area between the two mounting screws facing the fender. There is a very noticeable increase of power. It hasn't been hot enough since I did this mod to see if it will melt.
BTW I used regular PVC.

Instead of tapping the hole by the TB for the valve cover hose do you think I could just attach one of those mini air filters on the end of that tube? I just dont want to take the risk of having that nut end up in my engine

For the guys with the ISR, does your pipe fit perfectly over the throttle body or does the rubber just make the connection and the pipe isnt really touching the throttle body? I checked out the idea with the PVC, but the pictures didn't work. I'm sure if I carefully read the instructions I could figure it out, but the pics would help tremendously. thanks!

As for the PVC, I did all of mine by looking at it and multiple trips to Home Depot to get the right parts.

I got a K&N long before doing my 3 inch body lift but when I did it my air tube set up would not work with the new height of the body. I have to ditch the bottom section of the air box. I took and cut the rim with the snaps off of the lower section and boom. Instant open air style box with power to boot. BUT being I am not geared yet with my 35s I am not feeling the full effect so I really cant say how cool it is being I dont know exactly how cool it is. BUT when I do gear up I can only imagine.

I put on the FIPK, but now I've noticed more valvetrain noise, I think I messed it up from over-revving it too much, just to hear the cool sounds from it in the 5000 to 6200 RPM range.

Newly rebuilt engine (for free) a year ago. I've always revved the sh_t out of my Toyotas.
If I had the $$ I'd get a set of the DOA heads, they should be able to handle the revving, but I don't think the bang is worth the buck.

The first performance mod I did was adding a Weapon R short ram intake. Much quicker off the line and at WOT. It's a bit loud (very throaty), but I don't mind. Shortly after I installed it a valet driver was freaking out because he thought I dropped in a v8. It seems to be a big improvement throughout the band, but I never bothered to see exactly how much I've gained.
Isn't it true that the FIPK for 2nd gens only replaces the airbox immediately in front of the AFM?

I got my digital camera today so here's some pics of what I did.
On this one I cut out the section that is between the two mounting brackets on the inside of the fender. It was just a straight shot from one side of the box to the other.
