I'm just wondering if anyone here was on on that group buy for the HID plus.
One of my bulbs died and I can't figure out if they're proprietary or if they're available locally or whatever.

Cheers

Reapur,

I got the same ones as you during that group buy with Jeese @ Jaos. One of my bulb also has a different color now (not white, but a little bit greenish white). You might better off buying a whole new kit, eventually the other bulb will go too. Try ebay, they might have some, the manufacture is SPW HID PLUS. I got a new Catz H4 dual beams couple of weeks ago, it's 4500k (more useable light), instead of our 7500K. Also as of 8-15-03, it's illegal for any MANUFACTURE to produce and sell this retrofit kits, FYI.

cool

There must be some sort of timeout, my first reponse didn't even post dammit.

Thanks Tony, I'll search on SPW just to see the price.

How did you get the catz, aren't they illegal to sell? Which ones did you get:
http://www.brightheadlights-hid.com/...ights-Kits.htm

How does the 4300 compare with the SPW bright white light. I would imagine that 4300 would be better on snow.

Also did you look at this kit?
http://www.hid-online.com/products/kit.asp?id=13

I can't believe they died on me 2 days before I leave for Phoenix. Now I had to put in the OEM bulbs, yuk, so dim in comparison

Maybe I'll stop by extreme mike's shop and see what he has.

Cheers,
Ziad

Mine burnt out about 6 months ago....
They first started to change it's color to a greenish/yellow,
then they started to flicker on and off....then they finally gave up.

And so, i purchased the Bellof HID Dual Beam 5000K through
www.sigmaautomotive.com.

Check out : www.hidforum.com

This site is very informative...

aren't HID's supposed to last a lot longer than OEM? As I recall, you guys got those kits a year or so ago. Are they just cheapie kits?

Ziad,

I got the Catz H4 Dual Beam 4500 "Rising White", I haven't install it yet. I got it throught tlelectronics.com, got it for $500.00. It's an actuall duam beam, not like our SPW with the sheild as the high beam. This one has the selenoid that move the bulb for the high, the quality is much much better, and less wiring also. I'm just waiting for the SPW kit to go out, so that I can install the Catz.

Gawd that bellof is a ton of dough.
The catz and the bellof seem to use the same bulb mechanism where the housing moves in and out to give you high beam.

I'm wondering if both these kits use the existing wiring, because I don't want to give up the feature where the lights turn off when you cut the ignition and open the door.

Cheers,
Ziad

reapur:

That shouldn't be a problem still using that feature.

BTW:

The Bellof and Catz are the same kit. Just different name on the packaging and the Catz are alot cheaper in price.

They are a good kit as is the hidonline kit. The SPW use cheap Korean bulbs that will burn out quick due to virtually no quality control.

pfdaxe is absolutely right....

Bellof's are quite expensive, and accually, they're sister companies with Catz.....
At the time, I happened to purchase the Bellof's for the same price as the Catz...

Both are great units......

In my own opinion, i would rather pay the extra $$ and go with either Catz or Bellof, or any other reputable Lighting company, then to take a chance with some generic HID's...

pfdaxe: Excellent job on the set-up of your truck!!!!!
.......especially that grill............

How ironic. I've had a problem with my HIDs for a while now. Every now and then, the driver's side light wouldn't come on, but if I cut the truck off and then back on, it would light. About three weeks ago, the bulb totally died. It would not light at all. I troubleshot the thing for about two hours and finally traced it to a burned out bulb, not the ballast. I talked with SPW about it (late September) and they told me that they didn't have any of the HID Plus replacement bulbs in stock and that I would need to call back the first of October. I haven't called them back yet. I tried finding a replacement bulb for the HID Plus online, but all retail sites are now carrying the HID Plus II kit, which I'm sure is a different color temp. I'm worried about the other bulb now. The SPW guy told me that the life of the HID Plus bulbs was only about 2000 hours. I never installed a switch to disable my DRLs so whenever I've been driving, the HIDs have been burning. I'm sure it's a matter of time before the other bulb dies. I too had to stick the stockies back in and it makes me sick to look at them. The HIDs looked AWESOME!!
What's the deal with some of the kits being ruled illegal? Can someone explain? Later.

Matt
