Which wheels to use?
I've got a set of Yokahama Geolandar tires that I put on the original alloy wheels on my 2000 4R Limited for rough-road/mild off-road use. They're like these on the AAA Rims site. When I did that, I kept the OEM Bridgestone tires.
I can get some basically unused alloy rims from a 2003 Tacoma for $200.00 as in this photo also from the AAA Rims site.
I want to put the Bridgestones on one of the sets of wheels and use them in the winter to get some miles out of them since they have many more left in them. (Seattle winters have been really mild lately, so I don't really see a need for serious snow tires and these are M+S rated anyway so they'll do fine based on past experience.)
I'm trying to decide which set of wheels to use for the summer where there is more chance of messing them up. I've looked at some fo the pricing, and it isn't clear to me which would be the cheaper to replace. On the site where I got the pictures, they seem to be about the same. I'm leaning toward using the Tacoma rims in the summer and keeping the others in better shape in case I should decide to sell the 4Runner any time soon.
I'm curious what others think.
Forgot to add that my original wheels are still in real good condition. No curb rash or scrapes or scratches from rocks. Obviously not virtually brand new like the others, but no defects that I think would subtract from the value any more than a set used only on paved roads.

I just got new wheels for mine. I ended up with American Racing Outlaw II. They have a really aggressive off-road look and being all steel I know I can trust them to hold up well on the rocks. I paid about $80 a piece for them. I'm waiting for my front coils to come in so I can get the Runner lifted and mount the new wheels since they are 285's.

I actually saw a 96 with those on it the other day in savannah. They looked pretty good. My opnion is that anything is better than what everyone else has. If you have to have alloys go with those, but I'm a rockcrawler fan myself. $55 each, but they are heavier. I just like to be different. I will be the third toyota in savannah with them. (The others are an SAS'd 1st gen and the other is a taco with a 6" lift and I believe a badlands bumper in the front.)
So yeah, go for it!
