When you start talking about the value of a wrecked Yota, a lot will come down to where you are. I found out, last year, that here in Colorado, even the wrecked ones hold their value pretty well. I was extremely lucky to get my whole donor Taco for less than $4K (also a roll-over). I was regularly seeing rolled Runners going for 6-7K! You have to remember that you are competing against yards that make a living out of parting them out.

Good luck, and if you do decide to get it, be SURE to remove the spark plugs, and crank the engine, so that you can be certain that there is no oil in the cylinders!

IFS is strong. talk to tc. he is filled with more info than me, because he has a 2nd gen 4runner with no lift, 33's, locked and armored, and the man drives every obstacle that molly does. (a 2nd gen 4 runner SAS on 35's) IFS is not bad for wheeling at all. i guess it just depends on what you want. have you wheeled IFS very much? maybe you should start there. get some coilovers and get more travel out of the ifs. or even get LT for lots of flex up front. if you arent doing strictly rockcrawling, i think the IFS should do just fine for what your doing. 35's or 37's and youre gonna have some wicked CV angles depending on lift to fit those pups. thus leading to shredded boots and weaker cv's in general. before you spend all your money on SAS, wheel that puppy stock. i hope my little knowledge has helped a bit.

Going to maybe look at an xj tommorrow also. found it for $1000, rough body, runs good though. It seems the xj may be the better vehicle to go with. NO doubt, i would take my 4runner limited over any jeep (well maybe not srt8) for a daily driver. BUt for off road only the jeep seems better, it has solid axles, weighs less, lot more parts available, and they are smaller. The only thing concerning me about the 4runner is teh ifs. You can tell a huge difference in pics comparing sas and ifs ,with ifs the tire is off the ground in alot of pics because of no downtravel, and does not have near the same travel to stuff the tire. I mean, a xj in decent condition costs the same as the rolled 4runner!
