What would you do if Toyota dealer crack the windshield while servicing your 04 4R?

Well... there are advantages to aftermarket glass. I mean, you can always ask for a "thicker" glass. That will make the ride quieter on the highway. But other than that... the toyota glass is pretty good. I think for my 2000 4runner it had water repelling glass. So when it rained and i was on the highway, the water pretty much slid itself off for the most part.

I believe it started as Pittsburgh Paint about 100 years ago and spun into other companies such as the safety glass division etc.but not 100% sure about that
Yes it is a respected brand name.

I've had good luck with aftermarket windshields. As for sealing, it's basically a glue that seals not an actual 'seal', so leakage is pretty much dependent on the experience of the installer and the glue they use.
But yeah, in your shoes I would probably insist on OEM glass too.

insist on a new windshield of YOUR choice....
I prefer PPG or Pilkington.....
if they won't do it, have it done, and bill them.
They broke it, they should fix it. DON'T COMPRIMISE!

About that rattle?
Pwanghk
Not to hijack your thread but I was wondering about the rattle that you are/were having. I have one on my 03, it sounds like it is on the drivers side at the windshield. Is this the same thing you were having if so could you give me some information on the fix.
Sorry about the windshield problem, I would ask for toyota glass but i have never had a problem with other non-factory glass that was installed.
Hope everything comes out good and the problem is taken care of the right way.

I had my front passenger window replaced about 3 months ago. I engaged the receptionist at the glass shop in casual conversation, and she mentioned that a lot of people will beg for the glass with their car manufacturer's name stamped in it...but that all it does is raise the price of the glass. It's all about the branding, baby. Making it look the same.
Of course, they broke a windshield that had the etching...so they should put one with the etching back in.
I'd do some research as to how much the plain vs. etch would cost you to buy if you had broken the glass yourself... and if they don't put an etched windshield back in, demand the difference in cash.
In either case, the glass will be about the same in a wreck.
Heh, I wonder if they would have broken an aftermarket windshield, doing your cowl repair?
